The Storage Administrator is responsible for executing daily service delivery of storage allocation in both the centralized data center and also at the facility level.
Emphasis will be placed on this candidate to maintain the Storage Area Network-attached (SAN) servers according to the design requirements defined by the Storage Architect and standards documentation.
This position will provide the implementation, maintenance and monitoring tasks associated with the AHS storage environment.
This position will report to the manager of the Database and Storage Administration Team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Storage Support: Perform direct work associated with all aspects of storage administration, including but not limited to: component cabling, installation of servers, installation and configuration of storage devices and network equipment, relocating hardware, and other data center related tasks required to support the business needs of the organization.
Storage Maintenance: Manage and complete scheduled SAN maintenance activities such as: monitoring resource usage, viewing error logs, maintaining system security, applying system patches, upgrading system software and other tasks as directed by manager.
Storage Monitoring and Optimization: Manage and participate in the monitoring, optimization and diagnosis of currently deployed storage solutions. Provide the appropriate documentation to management, detailing the root cause analysis of outages, performance concerns, and proposed resolution and optimization options.
Technology Research and Evaluation: Perform in-depth research, evaluation and analysis of storage solution and network backup technologies.
Maintain vendor relationships and coordinate vendor activities.
Business Collaboration: Participate in business planning meetings in order to understand and recommend the best technical, most cost-effective, storage solutions that meet initial capacity, long-term growth, and performance requirements.
Capacity Planning: Provide proactive and cost-effective planning documentation, based on proven methods and historical trends, to anticipate initial size and growth of new systems as well as continued growth for existing solutions. *
The requirements for the Storage Administrator included but are not limited to:
A minimum of 5 years experience as a SAN administrator in a 24x7 production environment that include platforms such as IBM 4000/8000 series, NetApp/NSeries, and EMC.
A minimum of 3-5 years experience with the deployment and support of SAN switch configurations such as the Cisco and Brocade switches.
A minimum of 1-2 years experience with SAN replication technologies such as IBM Global/Metro Mirror and NetApp SnapMirror.
A minimum of 1-2 years experience with storage virtualization technologies such as IBM SVC.
Experience in the deployment and support of enterprise network backup architecture with products such as Tivoli Storage Manager, Avamar, Networker, and FalconStor VTL.
Experience with a variety of Open Systems platforms and technologies such as Windows, AIX, Linux, and server virtualization products such a VMWare.
Be able to participate in a production on-call rotation.
Must be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
Must be able to effectively communicate verbally as well as in documentation to al levels of employees.
