Research Analysts work in small teams on research studies to surface key challenges or opportunities facing government affairs professionals and provide best (and worst) demonstrated practices in addressing these issues. Analysts are actively involved throughout the research cycle—from conception, to research interviews, to analysis and creation of presentation materials.

The unique membership model allows analysts to directly interact with lobbying and advocacy executives, learning from their experiences and influencing change at member offices through presentation of key research findings. Research studies can range anywhere from 1-9 months in duration, and typically culminate in an annual Member summit where findings are presented.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinate and participate in interviews with executives, academics, and industry experts in search of best practices; building strong research relationships with key members
  • Conduct secondary literature searches and synthesize information to elicit key insights for use in member toolkits and larger best practice research studies
  • Use analytical tools such as root-cause analysis to identify the drivers of members’ problems, create hypotheses regarding solutions, and test difference between conventional and progressive practice
  • Provide excellent written and graphical summaries of key findings and when necessary, perform in-depth data analysis for use in case studies and larger best practice research initiatives
  • Respond to inbound research inquiries by individual member organizations
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
  • 2-3 years post-undergraduate or graduate experience, or related research experience
  • Ability to locate and procure information from original sources, especially senior executives
  • Proficiency in distilling large amounts of information into relevant insight
  • Ability to analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data to identify relevant findings
  • Excellent oral communication skills, and exceptional writing and graphics skills
  • Ability to develop strong research relationships with members and content experts
  • Strong project management and time management skills in delivering simultaneous projects
  • Skilled at working both independently and in a team environment
  • Exceptional record of academic achievement and an aspiration to constantly learn and improve

  • Experience and interest in following Congressional legislative efforts
  • Experience conducting interviews with senior-level professionals
  • Experience with solution focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively
