Position Summary

The role of the Strategy group within Staples is to develop and drive major growth initiatives in partnership with the business unit Presidents and the functional leaders of the company. An EVP of Global Growth, a member of the company’s senior management committee, heads the group along with VPs focused on the segments of Staples’ business. The team includes Business Analysts, Managers, and Directors from leading schools and with relevant industry and/or growth strategy consulting experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Managers will have the opportunity to significantly impact future growth of the overall business while getting exposure to a wide range of individuals and functions within the company. Managers are expected to partner with Business Unit leaders to develop and implement new growth strategies. They are responsible for owning and driving growth strategy projects from inception to completion. This is done through synthesis and evaluation of external market and competitive trends combined with assessments of internal performance and capabilities. Managers draw insights and actionable implications from their work. They also play a role in prioritizing initiatives across all of Staples’ businesses to optimize overall company investment

MBA degree

3-5 years strategy consulting or relevant industry experience (technology, e-commerce, business services or print solutions)


Proven ability to structure and independently lead analytical and qualitative strategy projects, including the ability to review work from junior team members

Experience building a business case with both financial and strategic rationale to support a business initiative

Ability to quickly derive insights from research and analysis

Excellent written and oral communication skills; Proven senior executive communication skills (both written and verbal)

High degree of confidence, intellectual curiosity and a passion to succeed

Creative/innovative/conceptual thinker
