In Disaster Services, Structural Engineers are deployed as Project Specialists for the FEMA Public Assistance Program for the preparation of Project Worksheets. Structural Engineers may be required to evaluate and assess bridges and/or building damages sustained as a result of flooding, earthquake, hurricanes or other natural disasters; and coordinate/manage the activities of other specialists. Structural Engineers should be familiar with the International Building Code, and have experience with cost estimating and the ability to provide cost estimates for repair. The Structural Engineer may have to determine mitigation opportunities for facilities.
Candidate must possess at a minimum an undergraduate degree, have 2 years of practical experience, and must have completed the FEMA Operations I & II courses. A Professional license is not required but is preferred. Experience in FEMA disaster response and recovery is preferred.
