Position Summary

The Student Academic Specialist will be responsible for administering and coordinating activities of the Undergraduate Program in Agricultural and Resource Economics (AREC), and serve as the liaison between students, faculty, and other administrative and University units. The Student Academic Specialist will need to collaborate and cooperate with faculty and other departmental staff while initiating new short- and long-run projects. This is a part-time position with benefits. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting new students and promoting the major in the University community. * Compile statistical data relevant to the undergraduate program and the department. * Assist the Undergraduate & Graduate Program Committees with preparing the master schedule of classes for each term. * Provide general support of all undergraduate classes. * Advise students and faculty on College and AREC requirements for coursework and assists students with registration. * Process inquiries for program information. * Serve as department liaison and organizer for undergraduate functions. * Perform data input and retrieval through UAccess. * Attend training workshops relevant to position. * Assist the department with outcomes assessment requests. * Offer a professional atmosphere and environment to all individuals contacting our department or needing assistance. *Attend college and university advising meetings. * Provide administrative support for academic and research related activities for faculty. * Maintain academic files. * Evaluate and recommend operational changes to the Undergraduate Academic Program to ensure effectiveness and compliance with University policies and regulations. * Provide department with general administrative and clerical support. * Provide back-up support for department Business Manager, including processing of payroll, purchasing orders, PCard reconciliation, etc. * Serve as back-up support staff for Graduate Program Coordinator and Associate Editor during times of absences. * Help maintain undergrad webpage. * Other duties as required by the Department and as requested.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field related to area of assignment; OR, four years of clerical or related experience which includes two years of experience evaluating credentials or working with academic and graduation policies; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Additional Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining databases and creating spreadsheets. * Proficiency with MS Office. * Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively and professionally. * Ability to proofread. * Works well under pressure during busy times of the year. * Experience with web page software. * Working knowledge of University of Arizona procedures in Undergraduate Admissions and Degree Certification, Curriculum, and UAccess Student. * Willingness to learn. * Ability to work well with very little supervision. * Take initiative on assigned projects.
