Estrella Mountain Community College is hiring a Student Services Specialist. Working under a learning college philosophy ( and placing learning first anyway, anyplace, anytime. This position provides one-stop student service to all new and continuing students, with a specific focus on education and justice studies majors. Provides general information to students via email, phone and in person to assist them in matriculating at the college. Assists students in developing an educational plan, advises students on Associate degree programs and transfer requirements, provides basic financial aid and veterans' benefits information, and assist students with career exploration and university transition process. Participates in cohort related recruitments, career, and transfer events. Coordinates with faculty on issues related to advisement for assigned cohort area.

Essential Functions

65% - Provides academic advisement to new and continuing students
10% - Updates and maintains records of student contacts and outcomes
10% - Investigates changes and updates related to selected career fields and develops materials for student and staff use
5% - Provides financial aid and veterans' benefits information
5% - Serves as advisement liaison to academic faculty divisions
5% - Participates in career fairs and recruitment activities at EMCC and in the community

Minimum Qualifications

- Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Experience in advising, counseling, or recruitment in a higher education setting
- Experience in developing and delivering public presentations
- Experience with on-line student information systems
- Experience maintaining program documentation via Excel, Access or similar software

Desired Qualifications

- Bachelor's or higher earned degree
- One (1) or more years' experience in academic advising in a higher education setting
- Experience working in a team environment
- Experience working with faculty in a higher education setting
- High level of written communication skills

Special Working Conditions

May be required to work evenings and weekends. May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer monitor. May require long periods of standing. Requires traveling to multiple sites within Maricopa County.
