POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The primary purpose of this position is to advocate for students, provide leadership for co-curricular activities and improve the campus climate in support of student success. S/he will provide oversight for student activities and serve as supervisor of record for the Coordinator of Student Activities. Under limited supervision, this position serves as a special assistant to the Vice President of Student Development Services. Plans and administers special programs/events such as graduation, academic excellence, Student Assistance Program, etc. Promote and enhance a sense of community on campus by creating opportunities for involvement that support a vibrant social climate throughout the week and on weekends. Responsible for providing leadership, supervision and administration of intramurals/recreation and student activity fee budgets. Monitors and routinely reports to the Vice President, student learning outcomes for all division of student development services departments.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Masters degree in adult education, counseling education or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Two to three years work experience in student development services at a community college preferred. Experience at an educational institution working with students required.

SKILLS:

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills required. Strong organizational and management skills a must. Proficient in the use of PCs and associated software. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with prospective students, the public and college and high school staffs. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be willing to travel as required for workshops and conferences; Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
