Responsibilities of a Sub Arc Welder Helper include setting up sub arc machine using the sub arc work instruction and assisting operators to ensure production needs are met.

Responsibilities:

· Clean joint properly

· Inspect weld joint prior to welding for joint soundness, pin holes, improper fit-up, poor root pass and inconsistent gouging

· Visually inspect joint for cleanliness and depth

· Preheat weld joints

· Operate sub arc machine (mast manipulation, traverse sub arc equipment, hook up ground)

· Set up sub arc machine independently, using proper parameters, head position and trunnion speed

· Perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing wire, drive rolls, liner, break-aways, contact and refill flux

· Report issues to maintenance

· Operator sign-off

· Record job and section information in time matrix

· Actively support all EHS and continuous improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to independently operate sub arc equipment. Knowledge of power and fit-up trunnions, including setting speed, adjusting trunnion up and down, and moving wheels in and out. Knowledge of weld procedure sheet, including an understanding of the significance and applicability. Understanding of weld map. Ability to efficiently and independently use flat tape, ruler, hand grinder, hard-stone and wire wheel, sanding pad, cut-off wheel, hand scraper, welding pliers, air hammer and bridge cam to perform all tasks associated with position. Ability to use man lifts. Able to locate and reference all work instructions pertaining to current job or project. Understanding of department KPIs, metrics and measurables. Sense of urgency and accountability. Pass 1G SAW weld test. Vision certified Jaeger #2 and pass VT written test.

Must have willingness and desire to learn as well as be cross trained

Purpose of the Sub arc Helper role is to eventually be able to operate and be responsible for setting up sub arc machine using the sub arc work instruction to weld cans to ensure production needs are met.

Responsibilities of a subarc welder include:

· Clean joint properly

· Inspect weld joint prior to welding for joint soundness, pin holes, improper fit-up, poor root pass and inconsistent gouging

· Preheat weld joints

· Operate sub arc machine (mast manipulation, traverse sub arc equipment, hook up ground)

· Set up sub arc machine independently, using proper parameters, head position and trunnion speed

· Weld 3G FCAW to quality specifications, repairing blow throughs

· Weld 2G GMAW to quality specification (root pass)

· Perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing wire, drive rolls, liner, break-aways, contact and refill flux

· Report issues to maintenance

· Visually inspect joint for cleanliness and depth

· Operator sign-off

· Record job and section information in time matrix

· Actively support all EHS and continuous improvement initiatives

Knowledge of weld procedure sheet, including an understanding of the significance and applicability. Understanding of weld map and weld data sheets. Ability to efficiently and independently use belch torch, flat tape, ruler, hand grinder, hard-stone and wire wheel, sanding pad, cut-off wheel, hand scraper, weld pliers, air hammer and bridge cam to perform all tasks associated with position. Able to locate and reference all work instructions pertaining to current job or project. Understanding of department KPIs, metrics and measurables. Sense of urgency and accountability. Pass 1G SAW, 2G GMAW, 3G FCAW weld test. Vision certified Jaeger #2 and pass VT written test.
