Graduation from NLNAC and/or CCNE accredited school of nursing or college. BSN preferred. Three years pediatric experience required. Active membership in a professional nursing organization required. BLS required. Registered Nursing License or active Temporary Practice Permit in the State(s) in which the nurse is practicing. If practicing with an active temporary practice permit, obtains an RN license prior to the expiration of the practice permit.

Informatics competencies for registered nurses:

Computer Competency
• Basic Use of MS Word 2007
o Creation of meeting minutes, creation of charts and tables
o Saving and naming of new and established files
• Basic Use of MS PowerPoint 2007
o Creation of an education presentation using clip art
• Basic Use of MS Excel 2007
o Creation of a simple spreadsheet and use of symbols
• Navigation and basic search functions of the Internet using Internet Explorer
• Use of Outlook 2007 email, opening of attachments, attaching new files to emails and saving attached files to computer
• Use of shared network file space
• Basic use of computers, printers, monitors, patient care devices, and Fax machines
Information Literacy
• Use of Internet and Intranet to look up basic electronic resources for practice
o Ability to find and print Patient Family Education Documents
o Ability to find PPM Department Council minutes from last month
• Ability to find and navigate the Department of Nursing websites and related linked CHOP resource sites
• Ability to perform a literature search on the internet and ability to find professional journal and/or research based articles
• Ability to evaluate internet sites for reliability
Information Management Literacy
• Navigation of electronic health information records and ability to review specific patient data in a clinical information system
• Understanding of policies and procedures around timeliness of care, use of a clinical information system and support of safe nursing practice
o Utilize applicable clinical pathways
• Ability to collect raw clinical data using quality tools
• Ability to discuss, evaluate and analyze outcome data presented in charts and tables
• Discuss the responsibilities of each user of an electronic record related to confidentiality and privacy
• Coordination of patient care information in a fragmented environment where there is partially online and partially paper references

Job Description:
Practices at the level of a competent to proficient practitioner of nursing. Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, as well as complying with the administrative policies and clinical protocols as outlined in the policy and procedure manuals. In addition, demonstrates clinical leadership skills through contribution to standards of care and division goals. Serves as a role model for other staff and a preceptor for new employees and participates in endeavors to increase nursing knowledge. Administratively responsible to the Manager and Ambulatory Nursing Director for nursing practice issues.
