The Salvation Army, National Capital Area Command seeks a Substance Abuse Counselor for its Harbor Light Center located in Washington, D.C.
The Harbor Light Center is a 24-hour substance abuse treatment facility that uses a Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) approach with cognitive behavior model, rewards, and positive reinforcement. We offer a variety of rehabilitative services including extended stay options, inpatient and outpatient programs, relapse prevention, in-house job program, and more. Our staff is passionate about helping clients change their lives and leave addiction behind.
The Substance Abuse Counselor ‘s responsibilities include: assess, develop, and coordinate treatment plans, counsel clients in both individual and group sessions, supervise client case files, monitor day-to-day activities, maintain accurate records and files, and coordinate services with other community agencies.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in a field related to substance abuse counseling plus one year required internship/residency, and four years of experience working with substance abusers in a therapeutic community, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Certified Alcohol/Drug Addictions Counselor – Level1 preferred; Licensed Professional Counselor, preferred; Licensed Independent Counselor, preferred.
