Under the direction of an assistant director, Member Benefits Processing, perform audit duties and provide supervision in benefits administration associated with benefit auditing. Manage and oversee the day-to-day workflow in the area. Ensure established performance standards are met and report on the status of work in the area.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee the day-to-day work product of team members to ensure STRS Ohio performance standards are met. Compile statistical data to measure accuracy and efficiency of the performance of individual team members and the team.
Audit benefits calculations, demographic changes and correspondence for the Member Benefits Processing department. Track associate accuracy and provide coaching as needed. Review work of benefits auditing team to ensure accurate processing.
Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and training for team members.
Lead the team through process evaluations and make recommendations for process improvements. Implement approved process recommendations.
Provide technical support and guidance to team members; assist them in handling complex and difficult cases; serve as the subject matter expert.
Participate in leadership meetings with benefits administration and hold team meetings within benefit auditing. Keep team members informed on all issues relevant to the team.
Participate in candidate interviews for vacancies within the team and make hiring recommendations to the assistant director. Conduct team orientation for new team members.
Write and conduct performance evaluations for associates supervised. Determine appropriate goals for team members. Maintain performance logs for team members and conduct performance improvement plans, if applicable.
Resolve escalated problems with members, other internal departments and external entities using the Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, Defined Contribution Plan Document, team procedures and other available resources. Provide potential solutions based on research to management when appropriate.
Write clear, accurate and comprehensive correspondence, reports and other documents as required.
Lead or participate in the implementation of changes due to revisions to the Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Code and administrative procedures. Work effectively with departments throughout STRS Ohio as needed.
Update policy manuals and procedures when changes occur and when scheduled for review.
Lead or participate in teams and projects as assigned by assistant director.
Lead or participate in user acceptance test for programming changes and data clean-up projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field required.
Three to five years STRS Ohio work experience or a combination of STRS Ohio and other work related experience required (Minimum of one year of benefits related experience preferred.)
Supervisory experience preferred, including demonstrated ability to lead and coach a team, set clear goals, delegate responsibilities, ensure and monitor progress and provide timely feedback to staff.
Ability to work with various departments within member benefits and with STRS Ohio support departments to ensure projects and other initiatives are implemented on time.
Thorough knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Code and administrative procedures directly related to the work of the team. Ability to understand and accurately explain information directly related to the benefits auditing team.
Demonstrated ability to analyze information received from members or other individuals and appropriately apply business rules according to the Ohio Revised Code, Defined Contribution Plan Document, Ohio Administrative Code and administrative practices to process requests such as, but not limited to, eligibility and benefit calculations.
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communications skills to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
