The functional responsibilities of this position are to provide customer service through the prompt handling of all sales and customer requests and to minimize the factory freight costs; to develop, implement, and maintain procedures to improve the over-all level of service provided to customers; to plan, organize, and supervise the warehousing, loading and shipping functions at Works #14; to obtain and maintain carriers to achieve low freight costs and reliable delivery of the product to the customer; and to determine means to improve the efficiency of these functions through technical contribution and guidance in establishing procedures. Reporting directly to this position are Shipment Releases Scheduler, Zoning Clerk, and Shipping Clerks. The incumbent is responsible for the scheduling of the plant's shipments; for arranging for an ample supply of reliable common carrier equipment of the type needed to meet shipping requirements of the plant; and for coordination of the operation to assure a smooth operation. This position establishes and maintains relationships with motor carriers and railroad salesmen in order to have a current knowledge of rates, service, and equipment availability, as well as operating authority. In addition, the incumbent reviews loading reports and other feedback from Sales and customer in order to evaluate service being provided by the carrier. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing procedures and aids to assure proper load assignments, taking advantage of any possible load consolidations, stop-off possibilities, and carrier selection which would result in lower freight costs. The incumbent works with Wareroom and Q.C. personnel on expediting of Q.C. holds and works with the Packaging Engineer on enforcement of specs and on trial shipments.

For effective administration of this position, the incumbent should have a degree in Engineering or Business, or the equivalent, and /or 3-5 years' experience in Production Control or the traffic field. The incumbent should have a facility for detail, be flexible, have ability to handle varied tasks at the same time, and posses the ability to adjust work schedules in an atmosphere of continual priority changes. Must be able to effectively supervise others and to effectively communicate with all levels of technical and operating personnel. Must be analytical, perceptive, and resourceful.
