Edison Mission Operation and Maintenance is an independent power producer operating electrical generation facilities thought the U.S. EMOM is a wholly owned subsidiary of Edison International. EMOM continues to significantly expand its portfolio of Wind Energy operations across the country.

Job Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and direct the instrumentation, electrical and control systems maintenance at a power plant or cogeneration plant.

Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices and maintain a safe work environment.

Provide first line supervision for Edison Mission Operations & Maintenance Inc. (EMOMI) I&E technicians.

Ensure that plant activities are performed in compliance with governmental rules and regulations, company policies and procedures and accepted industry standards.

Review, plan, organize, prioritize, schedule and supervise maintenance activities related to plant instrumentation, electrical and control systems. Procure the parts, materials, and tooling necessary to complete repairs, modifications, and new installations.

Analyze equipment failures and review techniques and procedures in order to establish new methods and make recommendations for equipment modification or replacement.

Engineer, design, specify, and direct the installation of new control systems or modification to existing systems.

Contact suppliers and contractors to provide parts and manpower necessary to repair, modify, or install new equipment.

Maintain a complete instrumentation equipment history, PM file and up-to-date schematics and control system diagrams.

Maintain adequate parts and tooling inventory required for the timely maintenance of plant instrumentation, and control systems.

Provide support to the Plant Manager for the preparation of periodic reports and charts relating to plant instrumentation, tooling, inventory, budgeting, and other related functions.

Assess employee needs and develop and/or administer training programs to ensure employee skills meet EMOMI standards to operate and maintain the plant safely and efficiently.

Assists in selecting, training and developing I&E personnel.

Develop new and/or revise existing Plant Orders, Procedures, and Operating Instructions and other plant documentation.

Participate in the development of the operation and maintenance budget. Monitor and control plant budget performance.

Recommend and administer disciplinary action.

Travel for training and/or other company business. This includes travel by automobile and commercial airlines.

Operate vehicles including trucks, forklifts and other mobile equipment.

Maintain a positive company image and constructive relationships with all internal and external customers.

Work effectively in a team environment as a leader, member and/or facilitator.

Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and instrumentation theory and safe work practices. Thorough knowledge of, and compliance with, government regulations and codes. General knowledge of power plant systems and operations. General knowledge in principles of supervision, accounting and budgeting procedures, maintenance planning and scheduling techniques.

Ability to effectively supervise, train and direct subordinates in an understandable, clear and consistent manner. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and analyze equipment failures to develop repair procedures. Ability to plan and coordinate large complicated projects involving EMOMI personnel and multiple contractors. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to enforce all safety, environmental and human resource rules and regulations. Ability to manage time efficiently and remain available and flexible.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Supervisor duties require extensive manual dexterity in usage of computer terminal and keyboard, while sitting for long periods of time in preparing budgets, schedules, reports, outage plans and other reports as needed.

Plant equipment may require supervisor inspection by climbing vertical ladders in excess of 20 feet, stairways in excess of 50 feet, using step stools, kneeling, bending, and walking on uneven surfaces such as loose rock and open grating.

The supervisor may also be required to operate mobile equipment such as zoom booms or scissor lifts to reach heights to inspect equipment, which includes pushing and pulling equipment into place, climbing into a basket and riding in the basket while the equipment is operating.

The compartments where certain electrical equipment may be located may exceed temperatures of 130°F. Some equipment may be located on surfaces where temperatures may be as high as 600°F.

The supervisor is required to prepare and conduct training including mentoring individuals one – on – one. In conducting training, the supervisor may be required to carry training materials, and to stand for extended periods of time.

When required for operation, maintenance or emergency reasons, must be able to quickly access all areas of the plant including, but not limited to, confined spaces, high elevations and hot areas.

May be required to work extended periods of time outside normal business hours.

May be away on business travel for extended periods of time to attend to outages, emergency situations, training or other reasons.

Experience

Must have extensive experience in the instrumentation, electrical and controls functions of power plants, refineries, or similar technology.

EDUCATION

High school graduate or equivalent is required. Classes in industrial instrumentation and controls, electrical theory, high voltage electricity and supervision/management/leadership techniques are highly desirable.

ISA Certified Control System Technician Level II or Level III or equivalent combination of education and experience is desirable.
