Supervisor, Local Broadcast Investment Reports to: Associate Director, Local Broadcast Investment

The following are the responsibilities and duties of the Supervisor, Local Broadcast Investment. This is not an all-inclusive list and will vary by account assignment.

Role The Supervisor manages the day-to-day activities of all the local buying needs. The Supervisor acts as the liaison between all broadcast stations, vendors, and clients. He/she will oversee all local investment and maintenance for respective accounts thereof. In addition, the position involves managing and training the Negotiator(s) and Assistant Negotiator(s).


n Manage solid client relationships

n Supervise the Negotiator(s) and Assistant Negotiator(s) on all day-to-day activities

n Present buys and post-analysis

n Issue directives to Investment group to guide buying process

n Meet with Negotiators and communicate approved plan for implementation

n Update account team on status of all client projects

n Manage the negotiation, presentation, and implementation of local television, radio, and cable schedules

n Train Negotiator and Assistant Negotiator in all aspects of local broadcast (schedule maintenance, strategies, programming, and negotiating), as well as the client(s) business and industry

n Interview applicants for junior-level positions

n Travel to markets: Investigate local market conditions, and meet with local station representatives to discuss media plans, upcoming buys, opportunities and concerns

Strategy and Plan Development:

n Develop strategies based on changing conditions in the marketplace for all aspects of local broadcast

n Allocate market funds across stations/groups

n Participate in Checkmate sessions:

n Understand – provide insights into consumers, brand, product and media

n Design – identify behaviors, barriers, drivers and apertures; develop communication strategies

n Create – create specific tangible executional ideas

n Capitalize – bring activity schedule to life; encompass negotiation strategies and implementation of the buy

n Advise client(s) of all fluctuations in the marketplace

n Coordinate efforts with the Strategy team(s)

n Evaluate media opportunities and make proper recommendations

n Seek out new and innovative media opportunities which can benefit client(s)

n Ensure integration and coordination between a client’s various communications programs


n Assist the Associate Director and Group Director in the negotiation of major, long-term media contracts

n Facilitate good relations and flow of ideas with the sales management contacts

n Assure that all buys for their accounts deliver the media strategy and investment specification

n Collaborate with the Negotiator(s) to ensure the negotiation strategy is sound and the rating projections are accurate

n Maintain accurate records of buys, budgets, revisions, credits, etc.

n Manage and monitor clearance of discrepancies and accounting functions for their particular accounts on a timely basis

Media Expertise:

n Meet with sales representatives and vendors

n Keep abreast of industry trends (trade press, current events, etc.) that may impact a client’s business

n Utilize and stay familiar with most current research tools

n Keep up to date on computer functions and upgrades as they become available
