Under limited supervision, plans, organizes, implements and supervises the activities and staff of the Public Health Department Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program.

· Supervises all aspects of the WIC program and coordinates participant services; provides nutrition counseling for qualifying women, infants and children; counsels high risk individuals concerning various health issues.

· Interviews, hires and manages staff; prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; disciplines, trains and evaluates staff; counsels, coaches and instructs employees as required; develops staff skills and conducts performance evaluations.

· Manages staff meetings to review caseload, concerns, and recommendations; assures that appropriate services are provided; assures effective communications between staff and related entities.

· Develops and monitors the annual WIC application and budget; prepares and/or oversees reports, statistics grants, proposals and program evaluations,

· Manages and coordinates program promotional events; makes speeches and presentations to community groups and others. Attends and participates in meetings, committees and conferences.

· Monitors and reviews trends in nutrition and health, and recommends operational and policy improvements.

· Provides and assures quality customer service in accordance with health department and WIC policies and procedures; refers individuals to other health professionals and agencies; maintains WIC sites.

· Reads and interprets regulations, policies and procedures; provides advice and assistance to the public regarding nutritional health.

· Performs computer application skills using the Integrated State Information System (ISIS).

· Adheres to the standards of the Privacy Act of 1974, {U.S.C. § 552A} as amended; maintains and enforces all aspects of confidentiality of participant information.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or related field. Master’s degree desirable and three (3) years experience in public health nutrition.

· American Dietician Association (ADA) Registered Dietitian Certification.

· A valid State of California driver’s license is required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

· Work is performed in an office environment.

· Light lifting of items up to 25 pounds may be required.
