This position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, professional development and direct supervision to bargaining unit drafting personnel. Provides support and input in the development of resource estimates, training plans, schedules and performance metrics. Monitors the effectiveness of the drafting team and establishes goals and performance standards for drafters, as well as, provides coaching and performance feedback. Coordinates projects with engineering sections and other departments to ensure proper design, standards and procedures are being maintained. Works with internal and external customers, consultants and contractors as required. Keeps abreast of state of the art technology in design tools including applicable industry codes and standards. Represents PHI at technical user’s group meetings and other organizations.
Associate's degree in Applied Science or Engineering Technology (for example, Technical Drafting or Electrical Design) OR the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Knowledge of general drafting standards, practices, and procedures.
Experience demonstrating skill designing and interpreting electrical utility construction drawings.
Experience demonstrating skill coordinating/managing projects with engineering sections and/or other departments.
Experience demonstrating skill leading a team or work group.
Experience demonstrating skill acting as a liaison between a company and internal/external customers, contractors, vendors, and/or consultants.
Experience demonstrating skill keeping abreast of state of the art technology in design and applicable industry codes and standards.
Experience demonstrating skill using an electronic Records/Document Management System (for example, Fusion, IBM DB2, e-Change).
Experience demonstrating skill using computer design applications (for example, ESRI, Microstation) to perform work functions.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, PDF conversion, and e-mail software to perform work functions.
Ability and willingness to work extended and non-standard hours as required.
Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations as required.
Ability and willingness to differentiate color coded drawings and plans.
Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by federal, state, local and company regulations.
Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions and in noisy and dirty environments.
Ability and willingness to perform physically challenging tasks for extended periods of time (for example, kneeling, bending, twisting, standing, walking, and lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds with assistance.
Must successfully pass the First Line Supervisory Assessment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must pass a Criminal History Records Check.
Must successfully pass a medical screening to include a drug test.
This position is a NERC regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
Experience demonstrating skill supervising others to include conducting performance appraisals, mentoring, and/or coaching.
Experience demonstrating skill identifying and implementing process improvements for drafting and design service activities (for example new CAD methodologies).
Experience demonstrating skill interpreting and following union contracts for bargaining union personnel.
Experience demonstrating skill providing technical support and guidance (for example, staffing resource estimates, cost control, training plans and administration, schedules and performance metrics).
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based presentation and database software to perform work functions.
