Provides oversight for all facets of the timber/fire/silviculture program on the National Forest. Exercises the full range of managerial responsibilities and ensures that the Forest timber/fire programs meet all National, Regional and Forest policies and directions in implementation and delivery.

Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with other state, local, tribal, and federal agencies, national, state and local public and professional organizations and officials to increase and enhance the growth of collaborative partnerships.

Monitors current fire management operations to assess effectiveness and identify further needs or improvements. Participates in general management reviews and carries out functional inspections for compliance with policies, plans, regulations and work planning. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above.

Bachelor's Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.


Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level. Examples of specialized experience are:

Assisting in organizing, coordinating and leading monitoring efforts designed to provide the Forest Leadership Team with information needed to adapt Land and Resource Management Plan implementation practices to meet current resource conditions or changing policies or procedural guidelines. Responsible for developing fire planning policies and procedures consistent with national level guidance and coordinating information between national, geographic area, fire planning units, and field organizations. Assisting in program leadership for the Forest Plan implementation monitoring activities on the Forest.

Subject to satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire.
