POSITION PURPOSE -
Supervises the administration and the processing of time and earnings records of the company for all associates, resulting in the biweekly distribution of payroll checks.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Participates in the evaluation of computerized payroll system products and companies and makes appropriate recommendations.
Develops, recommends, and implements systems and procedural changes for the Payroll Department.
Supervises distribution and completion of workloads within specific areas of department.
Responds to requests, projects and inquiries from management.
Provides information, possible solutions and research to coworkers and directs reports.
Responds to problems from stores, other departments and associates that cannot be resolved at direct report level.
Monitors the flow of the payroll process, solving problems and providing direction, assuring adherence to schedules.
Assumes responsibility for all payroll-related exceptions.
Selects, develops and motivates assigned staff.
NATURE AND SCOPE -
This position typically reports to a Payroll Manager.
Generally supervises one or more Payroll Representatives (typically 10-15 Associates).
Typically requires interpersonal skills for dealing with sensitive or controversial situations.
Typically faces situations that have a variety of interpretations and require careful evaluation.
Typically considers among several options and past practice when solving problems.
Typically progress or results of work is periodically checked. Has some leeway to change work procedures.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Intermittent periods of concentration and focused attention using one or more senses of low intensity and short duration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.
EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 2
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Bachelor' s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field is preferred.
Three to four years of experience with computerized payroll systems and procedures is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Data processing and data entry knowledge.
People management/supervisory experience.
