Assists in supervision of the operations and coordination of assigned area. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. Performance is evaluated based on the effectiveness and efficiency of operation of the area supervised. Supervises other staff and/or student employees.

Major/Essential Functions
Supports the Service Plus philosophy of Texas Tech. Responsible for the supervision of medical records department. Directs, supervises and participates in providing medical record services. Duties include record completion, transmission, indexing, abstracting, coding, research, filing, storage retrieval and maintenance. Also assumes all duties as assigned by the administrator. Provides training to new and existing employees. Responsible for development and adherance to policies and procedures as they relate to medical records. Corresponds with other agencies. Orders and maintains inventory of forms for medical records. Compiles information for QA reporting. Performs final chart audits to determine chart deficiencies. Prepares charts for archiving. Oversees the daily chain-in and chain-out process. Responds to grievances related to Medical Records. Conducts records reviews with offenders. Participates in meetings and/or committees to represent Medical Records Department. Maintains communication with department heads on issues related to medical records. Adheres to HIPPA standards of confidentiality. Close coordination with DON and Physicians.

Occasional Duties

Completion of high school or the equivalent plus five years progressively responsible office administration or supervisory experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous medical records experience, including EMR . Associate’s degree from a Medical Record Association accredited school. Knowledge of legal aspects of medical records management. Knowledge of medical and disease terminology and operative procedure coding system.
