This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), Division of STD Prevention (DSTD), Laboratory Reference and Research Branch (LRRB), Atlanta, GA.

Incumbent serves as Branch Chief and is responsible for providing leadership during the planning, directing and execution of the activities and services of the Branch. As Chief, the incumbent formulates Branch policies and programs and performs all administrative and supervisory responsibilities for the Branch. The incumbent also serves as an advisor to the Division Director and other program officials within the Center regarding Sexually Transmitted Disease laboratory issues. The incumbent interacts with other NCHHSTP senior staff and other Federal agencies with regard to joint and collaborative approaches to program development at the national and international level. The incumbent works with other senior staff and program managers to develop strategies for integrating Sexually Transmitted Disease laboratory activities and research. Provides consultation on the design and interpretation of applied and operational research studies. Formulates, develops, and directs broad programs of active research in immunology, genotyping, and molecular genetics which lead to advances in the field of STDs. Provides expert advice with respect to the development of laboratory systems designed to aid in the prevention and control of STDs. Represents the Division in these areas before the scientific and medical community and serves as a liaison with other research organizations, external partners, and governments.

Basic Qualification Requirement: Applicant must have successfully completed a full four -year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in an academic field related to the health science or allied science appropriate to the work of this position.
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized Experience: Experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in providing scientific leadership in formulating, planning, directing, and organizing research, surveillance or programmatic activities in the area of STD control and prevention.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
