Completely oversee all purchasing and inventory related requirements to meet the varying demands of the facility. Negotiate purchase contracts with major suppliers, negotiate discounts as required to improve company margins and evaluate inventory and purchasing processes to increase inventory turns.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage the supply base which includes sourcing, cost management, and the operational impact of incoming inventory
  • Supervises supply chain personnel at site
  • Develops and improves standard work for all associates
  • Develops continuous improvement strategies to improve continuity of supply, reduced lead times, cost reduction and quality
  • Manages vendor relationships to ensure efficient and cost-effective relationships regarding the purchasing and receipt of goods
  • Develop short and long term inventory projections
  • Manage and maintain inventory levels per corporate goals
  • Collaborates with operational teams to develop agreements and quality standards for critical and non-critical materials
  • Manages inventory programs with vendors, including forecasts, vendor stocking programs, etc
  • Participates in the new product development process
  • Works with sales and marketing personnel to plan initial orders on new products
  • Works with buyers to plan strategic buys (opportunity buys, blankets, etc.), specifically managing the vendor negotiation and operational impact of those purchases
  • Analyzes purchasing reports to identify opportunity areas for cost reductions and operational cost containment
  • Negotiates with vendors to achieve better cost structures and works with internal stakeholders to reduce costs of handling products
  • Directs the SCAR process
  • Sources product according to the specification of the merchandiser
  • Visits suppliers’ sites to achieve process improvements, cost reduction and quality improvements
  • Involved in proofing and product presentation in catalogs and websites
  • Participate in vendor performance reviews
  • Participates in efforts to outsource products that can improve quality, cost, OTD, or efficiency
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary
Required Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of related experience in a manufacturing environment with multiple products
  • Minimum two (2) years experience leading inventory and purchasing teams
Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics or a closely related field
  • APICS Certification or similar strong systems and inventory control skills a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be proficient in purchasing methods and procedures, techniques of specification and contract writing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with multiple levels of management.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experienced with lean manufacturing principle
  • Knowledge of purchasing laws required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors
  • Knowledge and experience in executing vendor certification programs • Knowledge/experience ISO 9000
Supervisory & Operational Authority

  • Will supervise three (3) or more associates
