Applicant that has been trained through a certified surgical technician program is preferred.

GS-7 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) or more years of specialized experience equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position at the GS-7 level. To be creditable, the experience must have been equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: working experience in an operating room environment as a primary scrub technician; arranging and passing surgical instruments and materials to surgical/health professionals; preparing highly complex sterile surgical setups; performing sponge, sharps and instruments counts; and setting up a sterile field using aseptic techniques. Note: Evidence of this specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held on your resume or OF-612. You will also need to provide work experience information such as hours per week, salary, and starting/ending dates of employment (month and year format) to establish you have one (1) full year of Specialized Experience at the required grade level. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
GS-7 EDUCATION: One (1) year or more of successfully completed graduate-level education or an internship with courses directly related to the position? One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. (Transcripts required.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties regularly require providing manual assistance in
lifting and positioning patients, most of which are in stages of
unconsciousness. There are extensive periods of regular and recurring standing,
walking, bending, lifting, pushing, reaching, and prolonged stretching to
provide easy accessibility of instruments and supplies for the surgeon. You must be dexterous in passing instruments
to surgeons without compromising principles of aseptic technique and in a
manner requiring little or no effort from the surgeon.

Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
