This is entry level land survey work assisting on survey field crews or performing office activities such as preliminary drafting, note keeping or related clerical tasks. Employees in this class perform routine sub-professional land survey work using routine surveying practices and equipment. Office tasks in this position require only limited familiarity with surveying and drafting technology which are both carefully reviewed for form and accuracy. The applicant performs assignments under the direction of a supervisor and project technical staff. The Survey Technician I will receive instructions on work and techniques to be used.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities: · Works as a general aide on land survey projects, occasionally operates an instrument, clears heavy brush and thickets, drives stakes, takes simple notes, makes minor sketches, cleans and cares for equipment.
· Traces and updates maps, plats, diagrams, charts, and comparable material of limited complexity.
· Performs minor computations.
· Performs incidental clerical and custodial duties and may be responsible for the operation and upkeep of survey equipment including but not limited to survey vehicles.
· Gathers equipment and helps load and unload survey vehicles.
· This position has no responsibility for direction of others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Knowledge of mathematics and ability to learn survey drafting and drawing.
· Ability to learn to use surveying instruments, equipment, practices and procedures. Ability to use hand and power tools.
· Ability to operate motorized equipment and possession of sufficient physical stamina to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, extreme heat, cold and rainfall.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a G.E.D. Certificate or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience. Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver License.
