System Admin

AlchemyAPI is seeking a Linux System Administrator / Network Operations Specialist to help manage the rapidly growing infrastructure of the world’s most popular natural language processing service. You should enjoy living at the command line and have no problem scripting repetitive tasks. You will work in conjunction with our software team to maintain a network infrastructure that is used more than 140 million times daily by customers across dozens of countries.

  • Maintain/upgrade the hardware and software of AlchemyAPI’s production and development infrastructure
  • Configuring and deploying servers, firewalls, and other networking equipment
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with hardware, software, appliances, and networks
  • Building automation tools and scripts to monitor AlchemyAPI systems
  • Documenting configuration policies and processes
  • Share on-call duties with other staff members to assure 24/7 uptime
  • Experience with large deployments and monitoring in a clustered/distributed environment
  • Deep understanding of web and application severs (Apache/Ngnix/Java)
  • Knowledge of network and server systems with a strong ability to understand complex environments for a thorough root cause analysis
  • Knowledge in system patching and virus protection products
  • Knowledge in distributed backup solutions and procedures of different vendors
  • Systems, data replication and consolidation
  • Knowledge of the Network protocol TCP/IP, sub-netting and routing
  • Solid understanding of RedHat Linux command-line tools, system configuration, troubleshooting
  • Experience with Bash and Perl scripting languages
  • Experience configuring and managing database solutions
  • Understanding of network firewall rule configuration, application-layer load balancers, proxy servers
  • Experience with virtualized environments (Xen) and exposure to AWS/EC2 are a plus
  • Knowledge of network protocols (RFC standards) and computer security background are a plus
