Candidates must possess a combination of both excellent Linux system engineering knowledge and software development knowledge. You’ll work with the rest of the Linux Engineering team to identify opportunities for further automation and implement appropriate automation solutions. Working knowledge and understanding of distributed systems & API design in a devops context.
Automate tasks and build tools to improve the maintainability of the Linux environment
Manage, extend and maintain a configuration management system
Extend monitoring systems to provide important metrics via graphite and collectd
Streamline operations through automation
Create and maintain documentation for important procedures and systems
Help build and support SVN and GIT source code repositories for other development teams
Participate in project planning sessions, execute project tasks
Investigate bleeding edge tools to continually improve our infrastructure
Prior experience with building an automated/hands-off management system to support thousands of servers
Experience using config management tools such as Puppet, CFEngine, bcfg, chef etc
Extensive knowledge and experience with Python & Bash scripting is required
Knowledge of IP networking, network analysis, performance and application issues using standard tools like tcpdump
Additional scripting/programming language knowledge is strongly desired (php, perl, ruby, java, c, etc)
Knowledge of noSQL and SQL database concepts
3+ years of Linux sys admin experience
5+ years of combined development and sys admin experience
