Position: System Engineer
Location: Albany, GA
This position provides IT Post Deployment Software Support to the Marine Depot Maintenance Command (MDMC). This position analyzes and defines data requirements and specifications, design, normalize, develop, install and implement databases. The System Engineer maintains, monitors, tunes and performs backup and recovery of databases. The System Engineer performs application management and administration, working with stakeholders, team members and sponsors to manage application software including, but not limited to Oracle Fusion Middleware.
Specific Job Duties Include the following:
? Installing, configuring and maintaining database management systems software, and analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.
? Developing and administer data standards, policies and procedures, and develop and implement data mining and data warehousing programs.
? Evaluating and providing recommendations on new database technologies and architectures, and ensure the rigorous application of information security policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of database administration services.
? Activate computer and peripheral equipment by following prescribed startup procedures, shall set up batch job runs, and shall initiate job execution in accordance with a schedule provided daily, weekly and monthly.
? Monitor systems status and performance by observing system messages and shall respond promptly with any required action.
? Monitor job flow and system utilization by entering commands through the control console to assure effective and efficient processing, and shall coordinate with remote processing sites as required assuring successful transmission and receipt of files.
? Investigate system malfunction to determine cause, define and isolate the specific problem, and initiate corrective action.
? Prepare written reports by e-mail at the end of each day detailing all operations completed and problems encountered, and participates in turnover activities by discussion with peers, work in progress, and problems related to production schedules, systems, status, equipment malfunctions and other operational problems, as necessary.
? Ensure the rigorous application of information security policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of computer operations services.
? Installing application software over a variety of OS software and configure per instructions/customers request.
? Configuring application software to perform optimally.
? Uninstalling application software.
? Integrating application software with DBMS(s), risk mitigation/monitoring agents.
? Installing application software and connect to web servers, other application servers, database management software or storage devices.
? Applying IA policies.
? Reading/listening to written/verbal instructions to upgrade application programs.
? Supporting application co-hosting in a clustered environment.
? Designing, managing, implementing and configuring LUN, file systems, disks, zones and other storage medial on various storage devices in a RAID.
? Designing, managing, implementing and configuring Virtual hosting software to support co-hosting multiple applications, DBMS(s), business applications or OS(s).
? Integrating application software to OS(s), DBMS(s), and business applications, monitoring agents, risk mitigation agents, backup/recovery agents, network devices and storage devices.
? Creating/Modifying/Updating/Closing Incidents to coordinate incident resolution with the LOGCOM C4 or MDMC Service Desks via a Service Desk or Project Management solution such as Altiris or Remedy.
? Provide web systems management of Oracle Fusion Middleware and similar web platforms. The Contractor shall support the following operating systems and network components including, but not limited to; Oracle Solaris, IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, Cabling and Keyboard Video Mouse (KVM).
? Support the following server-based hardware including but not limited to; Sun Fire V, E, B, X and T Models. Provide connectivity from application servers to data storage, including network devices such as, but not limited to switches, Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Network (SAN), etc.
? Develop and maintain system architecture to ensure sufficient capacity and availability; allocate file systems on client and application servers and storage devices to include, but not limited to NFS, NAS and SAN; reallocate storage space across physical file systems and logical storage units and volumes; Participate in the planning, implementation and monitoring of storage capacities to include or create all required documentation; knowledge of the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
Candidates must no less than 5 years experience performing the above functions.
