System Administrator (San Francisco, CA)

The System Administrator is responsible for all aspects of IT Data Center and Hosting Operations including effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure in a distributed 24/7 mission critical environment. Additionally, this individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the IT infrastructure. The System Administrator will report to the VP, IT and ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities Ensuring that the servers and network infrastructure is up and running
o Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
o Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
o Applying operating/appliance system updates, patches, and configuration changes
o Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
o Experience with open source monitoring tools (Zenoss, Scrutinizer, Nagios, etc.)
o Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale. Work with management on developing and implementing IT strategies that align with business goals Technical Documentation:
o Enhance and document IT department policy and procedures
o Develop and implement a systems infrastructure and technology refresh plan
o Develop, maintain and enforce a current network systems and information security policy and procedure Provide hands-on desktop and systems support including answering technical queries Performing routine audits of systems and software and performing daily backups Hands on experience setting up & configuring firewalls Must have at least a foundational level of security knowledge. Ability to design scalable systems as well as redesign or tweak those systems that are already built to scale better. Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends with little advanced notice
Requirements MCITP or equivalent years of hand's on Microsoft work experience
o Must have experience 4+ years' experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, RADIUS, IIS, etc 2+ years' hand's on experience with IT administration of Linux distros (CentOS, Ubuntu, etc)
o Experience managing LAMP stack
o Knowledge of web servers (Apache, Tomcat)
o Experience with database administration (MS SQL, MySQL, MongoDB preferred) Strong experience managing hypervisor technologies such as VMWare ESX, Xen or Hyper-V Experience using cloud-based hosted solutions: Amazon Web Services (AWS: EC2, S3, RDS), Rackspace Experience managing SAN/NAS technologies: EMC, NetApp, QNAP Hand's on Cisco network administration (ASA, site-to-site VPN, Catalyst switches) Availability for 24/7 on-call duty Hands on experience managing Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity using backup tools such as Symantec Backup Exec, disk-to-disk backups, replication, etc
Preferred At least 4-5 years (or more) of experience in systems administration Bachelor's Degree in computer science or information systems or equivalent work experience Experience working in a distributed Data Center environment (onsite, colocation, cloud hosting, virtualization) Exceptional sense of accountability and solid organizational skills Team player who is willing to take direction as well as work on issues and projects on their own Strong verbal and written communication skills in English Knowledge and experience in security software and network operations Thorough understanding of TCP/IP, Switching, Routing, DNS, DHCP, VPN, MS IIS Experience with the administration of Microsoft SharePoint. Enjoy self-supervision and working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment Knowledge of web servers and database servers Knowledge of at least one scripting language (Bash, PERL, Batch) Knowledge of High Availability & replication across multiple OS' preferred (including software and hardware load-balancers. Ability to work in San Francisco. Should have a car or access to one to travel to other office locations. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
