be given to applications received prior to 500 pm MST on Friday January 25 2013 Thereafter applications will be reviewed on an asneeded basis UCAR Community Programs (UCP) Visiting Scientist Programs (VSP) Partial relocation costs paid per UCARs relocation policy If necessary UCARNCAR will sponsor a work visa (eg H1B etc) to fill this position BASIC JOB FUNCTION Functions as a juniorlevel UNIX system and network administrator at the National Weather Services National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) located in Chanhassen Minnesota See httpwwwnohrscnoaagov httpwwwnohrscnoaagov The centers information system consists of a network of mobile devices office systems High Performance Computing resources and web services DUTIES INCLUDE Performs software and hardware administration of UNIX servers and workstations Performs software and hardware administration of Mac OSX and Windows workstations Performs software and hardware administration of networking components switches routers firewalls etc Manages information system data storage SAN and NAS planning and configuration data backup and cloud storage Manages information system security research planning implementation documentation and auditing Performs user support and helpdesk functions Job Location Chanhassen Minnesota United States Position Type FullTimeRegular Appointment Type Term engineering major and a minimum of four years relevant professional experience including a minimum of three years as a fulltime UNIX system administrator or an Associates degree in a closelyrelated area of study from an accredited institution and a minimum of six years relevant professional experience Knowledge Skills and Abilities Advanced knowledge and ability in UNIX system administration practices Advanced knowledge of UNIXlike operating systems particularly Linux and BSD Advanced knowledge and ability in maintaining x86based server and workstation hardware Working knowledge and ability in Windows system administration practices Working knowledge and ability in network administration practices Working knowledge of disk storage systems SAN and NAS technologies highbandwidth fabrics RAID and LVM configuration Working knowledge and ability in UNIX shell programming Basic knowledge of a highlevel programming language C C++ Java Perl Python FORTRAN etc Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent problem solving skills Ability to multitask effective management of varying priorities and deadlines Ability to utilize and adhere to a project plan DESIRED (but not required) Reputable professional certifications in any of the following UNIXLinux system administration Microsoft Windows Server system administration Cisco network associate or professional information security roles or practices incident handling OSX operating system and software administration Design and management of centralized authentication in a heterogeneous system environment Smart Card authentication systems VOIP system management Management of Cisco routers firewalls and switches Windows Active Directory management Assessment and implementation of FISMA requirements 8021x service and device administration Wireless network administration Virtual server and workstation configuration and management Ex VMware WAN design and management Information system vulnerability detection and mitigation Tape and disk based data backup system management Troubleticket system management Effective management of security incident response SQL database administration HTTPHTTPS
