Position Title: Systems Administrator (Washington, DC)
Windows Server Systems Administrator responsible for supporting MS Windows infrastructure and virtualization technologies.
The ideal individual will have 3-5 years of industry experience, obtained a degree and/or certifications, and have a broad knowledge base of the Microsoft, VMware virtualization and supporting networking principles, Server and blade hardware related technologies.
Support of technology infrastructure, hardware, software and office systems support, systems performance, technology integration.
With general guidance and coaching, monitors and optimizes servers and/or personal computers.
Working with monitoring tools, assess and interprets the logical and physical requirements of systems and applications in relation to hardware, software and operational needs.
Able to leverage scripting through Power Shell, Power CLI, VB script and batch to automate processes.
Design, development and support of client and server technology infrastructure, hardware, software and office systems.
With general guidance and coaching, implements and performs on-going maintenance of servers on all technology platforms.
Investigates new developments and makes recommendations on additions or replacements.
Installs, configures, and maintains operating system workstations and servers, including web servers, in support of business processing requirements.
Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with IT policies and procedures.
Sets up and monitors software that is between the applications and the operating system.
Communicates with the appropriate architecture groups to ensure that a unified direction is in place and is being followed.
3 - 5 years’ experience supporting / troubleshooting distributed / client server / virtualized servers and applications in an enterprise environment >200 servers.
Available for On-Call rotation.
2 or more years’ experience working with virtualization technologies; including the following: VMware vSphere 5: (Citrix Xen Suite a plus).
Proficient in VMware performance, capacity planning, monitoring, virtualization analysis, and consolidation activities.
Experienced with VMware enterprise features (DRS, HA, VMotion, VCB, SRM, Update Manager).
Experience with security\vulnerability patching of VMWare\Vsphere hosts and Virtual machines, including deployment and process documentation.
2 or more years’ experience working with Power Shell, VBscript, Power CLI & Windows batch scripting.
Strong propensity to automate routine tasks via scripting.
Ability to author scripts (beyond copying and modifying)
2 - 5 years’ experience supporting MS Windows network infrastructure.
Including any of the following: Active Directory, WINS, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
Solid experience in Storage and Networking concepts (1-2 years’ experience).
Strong work ethic, demonstrates initiative, motivated self-starter.
Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
Experience in planning and implementing infrastructure upgrades and patch management.
Demonstrated experience in the creation and management of technical documentation.
Collaborative in approach to working with a team.
Highly creative approach to proactively developing solutions that prevent problems, as well as problem solving.
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Minimum three (3) to five (5) years related experience preferred.
Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
Microsoft, VMware, Citrix certifications a plus.
Experience designing/configuring/supporting Microsoft based technologies.
Active Directory Auditing and Event Log management familiarity with tools like ArcSight.
Basic understanding of NTLM V2, Kerberos, Certificate Authority and management of certificates in the windows environment.
Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
Microsoft MCITP preferred.
