SUMMARY: Responsible for performance, integrity and security of company’s SQL server infrastructure. The position is accountable for performing the analysis, design, development and evaluation of SQL server infrastructure as assigned
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Assists and leads in the installation of SQL server hardware/software that is critical in nature; or, if required, leads in identifying and communicating needs and installs new SQL server hardware/software.
Be on call to resolve afterhours and weekend SQL server issues.
Responsible for SQL server performance monitoring and optimization,
Supports operations with SQL systems administration and maintenance, SQL data backup and recovery, SQL security administration, SQL system repairs and configuration changes.
Participates and leads in the installation of critical SQL server hardware and software.
Become familiar with hardware/software applications used in house, which they are responsible for deploying and supporting.
Plays role in establishing standards, policies and procedures for the specification, design, implementation, operation, support and documentation of SQL server environment.
Provides complex technical support to SQL system infrastructure.
Plays a significant role in capacity planning and performance modeling and monitoring for SQL servers.
Create and mains detailed documentation of SQL server infrastructure configurations and their functions.
Proactively remain current on technology and trends affecting company’s business and provides knowledge transfer.
Provide enterprise strategy and direction for MS SQL platform via collaboration with IT Sr Staff.
Configure/optimize MS SQL servers connected to SAN Storage
Troubleshoot and resolve database issues including integrity issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, and security issues
Install and configure MS SQL Server along with applying patches and fixes.
Experience - Around 8-10 years of experience in Database Development/Administration with MS SQL Server (2005 – 2008)
Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of:
Database principles and methodologies
Performance Tuning and Optimization
Physical Data Modeling
ETL / ELT
Security (Both AD and SQL Server)
Backup Recovery, Disaster Recovery
SQL Standards and Best Practices
Experience configuring/optimizing MS SQL servers connected to SAN Storage.
Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking
Experience implementing MS SQL server high availability and clustering.
Experience monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing performance related issues including MS SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, blocking locks and deadlocks, disk utilization, and other resource contention
Strong knowledge of and experience with backups, restores, recovery models, and disaster recovery scenarios
Advanced knowledge of Server Technologies
SQL Server 2005-2008R2
Must have experience working with the following
Supporting SQL server running on enterprise class server/storage
Supporting SQL server in a 24x7 environment
Working knowledge of networking technologies (TCP/IP)
Advanced ability to troubleshoot and solve problems and to communicate and support clients
