Specific Requirements : This Systems Engineer position works closely with the Government customer and other teammates to identify and develop requirements for the future architectural vision of a major Government laboratory. Helps refine the future architecture and identifies and executes initiatives to help the customer realize their architectural vision. Works with vendors to understand how their product lines fit into the current and future architecture. Stays informed on current market trends and advises program management and customer. Depending on skills and interests, the Systems Engineer may be sent on travel to support development teams to lend assistance with technical challenges. Performs trade studies and analyses using a methodical, collaborative approach, and presents to the Government the trade-offs, risks, and advantages/disadvantages of the identified solutions. Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) are required. Familiarity and experience applying Systems Engineering best practices is required. Experience with the Project Management Framework is highly desired. The successful candidate will develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, vendors, team members and contractors.

Technical Skills : Candidates must have a very broad range of experience, with a advanced level of knowledge in the following areas: Information Technology (IT), networking, storage systems, virtualization (VMware) and associated best practices; Information Assurance (IA); Software/system requirement specification and management; Object-oriented analysis, design, and architectural patterns with the Unified Modeling Language (UML); Agile methods, preferably with Scrum; Network Architecture and Design; Disaster Recovery/High Availability; Cloud Computing. Familiarity with Configuration Management, automated testing, and Quality Assurance processes is preferred. Familiarity with relational databases such as MS SQL, Oracle is helpful. Familiarity with JMS message transport (TIBCO EMS) a plus. Requires the ability to assess and judge the effect of technical decisions on the future success of projects/programs.

General Requirements : Ability to identify, analyze, define, and coordinate user, customer and stakeholder needs and translates them into technical requirements; assist customer and program teammates in expressing their needs in terms that can be used to generate valid requirements; help identify technology solutions with the potential to improve business processes; work with stakeholders as well as technical and analytical counterparts to define constraints, and develop requirements and concept of operations documentation; work with stakeholders to identify best-fit technical solutions to meet customer needs identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies provide conceptual design, prototype, and test cycles appropriate to a chosen technical solution; identify, document and manage interdependencies with other systems and elements of the IT infrastructure; and evaluate industry offering to identify products and technologies with the potential to support solution integration and design.
