Cray Inc. is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Storage engineering team. This position will provide engineering support for all Cray storage offerings and interface extensively with Cray field engineers and Cray customers in that role. Job duties include working with engineering development and test organizations on key issues, providing information to field analysts and customers, escalation support, recommending fixes to development, driving patch strategy and delivery, developing fixes when possible, driving FIN/FCO/ECOs, periodic assessment of Field Reliability rates, and ensuring engineering is responsive to customer needs.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter capable of handling technical issues that span multiple technology areas (I/O devices, interconnects, file systems, etc). In addition to supporting our existing install base, this position will represent engineering in major new installations, providing a direct link into engineering in that process. Cray delivers solutions that push the envelope of technology, scale, and performance, and this individual will have the opportunity to participate directly in interesting and challenging customer installs and acceptances.
Candidates must be able to interface well and drive efforts with other groups including: customers, field personnel, hardware/software product support, hardware/software development, and third party product personnel.
This position may be located in St. Paul, Chippewa Falls, or Austin, with Milpitas and/or remote acceptable for the right candidate.
10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years in storage related technologies
Linux experience required
Infiniband, 10gE, or other interconnect experience
Lustre experience a strong plus (or other file systems, e.g. GPFS)
Large scale HPC systems experience a strong plus
Able to work on problems of diverse scope (software/hardware/configuration)
Work well with multiple teams (HW, SW, Field Support, Operations, etc) and able to deal with customers effectively
Strong organizational skills and professional demeanor
Able to drive results in addressing product issues and associated corrective actions
Proactive, self-motivated and attentive to detail
Work well under pressure and manage challenging situations
