The work of the System Engineer will be used to guide teams implementing next generation software products and enhancing existing world class solutions for the Railroad Industry. The Systems Engineer will work closely with product managers, customers, software engineers, and test engineers to create innovative solutions. In this role, you will:
Develop high level concept documents to capture essential capabilities and behaviors of customer focused solutions; input to this work comes from product management, direct customer interaction, or contractual technical specifications
Be responsible for working with product managers and stake holders to create product requirements
Develop system architectures
Identify key interfaces and develop and maintain interface control documents
Conduct technical and peer reviews
Participate in software design reviews ensuring that design meets constraints with respect to requirements and interfaces
Work with test engineers to ensure that test plans will validate product at both component and system levels; full life cycle ownership between systems, software and test
Participate in bid and proposal activities collaborating with commercial team
May be required to help support field issues on current systems; investigating and researching field issues creates customer knowledge that we leverage in our product work
Provide input based on understanding of customer need / criticality of features / bug fixes into release management activities
Will be a technical lead and is expected to develop expertise in themselves and others
Mentor the growing team
Be required to articulate complex issues and resolutions in writing to a wide range of audiences
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, IT, Computer Systems or related technical discipline
Minimum of 5 years of professional systems engineering experience or software engineering experience
Ability and willingness to travel as required

Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience in distributed / complex systems, control systems, client / server, system communications
Experience with implementing & fielding multi-server solutions
Working knowledge of Service-Oriented Architectures and concepts
Experience with requirements management tools like RequisitePro, Doors, or Quality Center
Understanding of UML and UML editors (e.g. Rational Rose, Sparx Enterprise Architect)
Experience with Relational & OODB design, analysis & implementation
Experience in multiple software development lifecycle models include Agile Scrum
Proven capabilities to research and understand new technologies and analyze introduction of such technologies into a solution
Experience with Human Factors Engineering and software usability
Demonstrated strong logical and technical problem-solving skills
Experience in developing and maintaining formal interface control documentation
Experience with simulators and simulation environments
Experience with component based software systems in Java and/or C++
Experience with JBoss SOA, Red Hat Linux, and Java technology stack
Experience with Oracle, Versant, and other database solutions
Insight into new technologies that can drive product development
Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and team members
In-depth understanding of Railroad operations
