Responsibilities:

Schafer is seeking Systems Engineers to support the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD). JPEO is the Joint Services single focal point for research, development, acquisition, fielding and life-cycle support of chemical and biological defense equipment and medical countermeasures.

We are looking for junior to senior level personnel to work in the following locations: Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD; Ft. Belvoir, VA; Stafford, VA; Dahlgren, VA; and San Diego, CA.

Qualifications:

Level IV

Education : Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Master’s Degree, preferably with a major in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Engineering Management, or related discipline, and DAU Level III certification in SPRDE, Production, Quality and Manufacturing (PQM), or the civilian equivalent, are required. A combination of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Engineering Management, or related discipline, DAU Level III certification in SPRDE, or PQM, and ten (10) years of experience may be substituted for a Master’s Degree.
General Experience : Ten (10) years of general experience and six (6) years of experience in a program office or similar organization.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Display the ability to perform the following:
  • Provide scientific oversight and technical knowledge in the area of CBD development;
  • Work closely with the program manager, functional support, and IPT(s) to accomplish product goals;
  • Serve as a technical expert on executive level project teams and lead technical working groups to support product development;
    Conducts systems engineering management activities;
  • Assists in development of risk management effort;
    Provide expert support, analysis, and research on exceptionally complex problems and technical direction, interpretation, and alternative solutions.
Level III

Education: Successful completion of a full course of study in an
accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably
with a major in Engineering or a related discipline, and DAU Level III
certification in SPRDE, or the civilian equivalent, are required.

General Experience: Eight (8) years of general experience and four (4) years of experience in a program office or similar organization.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Display the ability to perform the following:
  • Serve as Principal Systems Engineer, when required, providing senior perspective program and engineering management support;
  • Evaluate, define, analyze, and recommend strategies and potential systems to meet chemical and biological threats and integrate emerging technology to augment systems under development;
    Coordinate program office activities relating to systems engineering with external stakeholders;
  • Provide technical advice on integration of CBRNe capability into JPEO-CBD systems;
  • Receive and review draft requirements documents (e.g., Initial Capabilities Document, CDD, CPD, etc.) from the combat developer, assess feasibility of user requirements, review and refine failure definition and scoring criteria for reliability, and provide feedback;
    Support the review and analysis of engineering change proposals and value engineering change proposals.
Level II

Education: Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with a major in Engineering or a related discipline, and DAU Level II certification in SPRDE, or the civilian equivalent, are required.

General Experience: Six (6) years of general experience and three (3) years of experience in a program office or similar organization.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Display the ability to perform the following:
  • Assist engineers and scientists to set up equipment, prepare and conduct experiments, collect data, and calculate or record results;
  • Assist in prototype design work;
  • Knowledge of DoD systems engineering processes and risk tracking tools, as well as experience with preparation of engineering documentation (e.g., Systems Engineering Plan, Technology Development Strategy, Program Schedules, etc.) and technical reviews (Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, etc.) is required.
Level I

Education: Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with a major in Engineering or a related discipline, and DAU Level I certification in SPRDE, or the civilian equivalent, are required.

General Experience: Five (5) years of general experience and two (2) years of experience in a program office or similar organization.
