The Systems Engineer position ensures continued airworthiness and regulatory compliance of the fleet, develops and leads reliability improvement initiatives, and maintains aircraft configuration control. The position provides aircraft engineering technical support primarily to the Technical Operations division and to other corporate divisions, when required. The Systems Engineer maintains the aircraft fabrication/build specification, recommends new aircraft configuration changes, supports new aircraft deliveries, maintains the aircraft modification status and provides instruction for aircraft chronic troubleshooting and repair. The Systems Engineer interfaces with the FAA, aircraft and component manufacturers and repair/overhaul vendors, and all Spirit Airlines departments.
Ensure aircraft regulatory compliance for FAA Airworthiness Directives (AD’s) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s).
Maintain the aircraft modification status and original fabrication/build specification. Evaluate and implement manufacturer and component service bulletins for fleet accomplishment to increase reliability, add desirable changes and obtain free of charge concessions before their deadline. Control cost/expenses, minimize aircraft out of service time, and provide modification.
Provide repair instructions/direction for damaged aircraft. Evaluate damaged aircraft for resolution, coordinate with manufacturer and/or Designated Engineering Representative (DER) when required, and provide an Engineering Authorization (EA) if required. Ensures minimal aircraft out of service time and regulatory compliance.
Provide/coordinate troubleshooting to resolve chronic aircraft discrepancies. Evaluate the problem and available Trouble Shooting Manual (TSM) procedures, consult with manufacturer for further assistance, and work in conjunction with Maintenance Control, Line Maintenance, and Reliability for resolution. Minimize aircraft out of service time and Deferred Maintenance Items (DMI’s)/MEL items.
Support requests for technical assistance from all company departments. Evaluate requests, communicate with applicable departments, and administer resolution.
Ensure compliance for other regulatory agencies (e.g. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Food and Drug Agency (FDA) Federal Communication Commission (FCC), etc.).
Participate in industry and manufacturer working groups, forums, seminars and meetings to maintain awareness of industry trends and to provide company representation.
Attend manufacturer, industry and company training to increase applicable technical knowledge base.
Aircraft experience as a systems engineer supporting 24 hour operations.
Bachelors (B.S.) in an engineering discipline (ME, EE, CE, other).
Experience and advanced knowledge of aircraft air conditioning, fire protection, flight control, fuel, hydraulics, anti-ice, landing gear, pneumatic and water/waste systems.
Demonstrated troubleshooting experience on aircraft systems.
Self-motivated with strong analytical, project and time management skills
Attention to detail and accuracy to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations.
Must have proven results-oriented experience.
Must work well under pressure and within deadlines to high degree of accuracy with minimal supervision.
Must have demonstrated experience in multi-tasking, work prioritization, and time management.
Must have demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional projects from inception to on-schedule completion.
Must have ability to communicate clearly and professionally via phone, email, meetings and presentations.
Strong relationship management skills and the ability to satisfy multiple customers.
Must be willing and available to work off-schedule hours when required to support operations.
Advanced computer software applications experience.
8 or more years experience as a systems engineer in an airline
Engineering experience on Airbus A320 or A330 family
Experience managing technical groups or projects/programs
