Systems Engineering Lead

Serve as technical lead on new and on-going projects, collaborating with development, project management and other business units to deliver timely solutions that meet business requirements

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Gather and understand technical requirements for new systems designs

  • Research, document and propose server and application configurations; establish standard solutions for re-use

  • Work with Infrastructure Operations to implement, deploy and hand-over on-going management of designed solution

  • Serve as subject matter expert for operating system (Windows, Linux, VMware, etc.) platform and associated applications (IIS, Apache, etc.)

  • Identify and resolve problems to ensure adequate performance, scalability and capacity

  • Work with vendors in a pre- and post-sales capacity to evaluate, implement and support products that enhance capabilities

  • Research and investigate new technologies and recommend platform improvements to support future growth

  • Design and drive group initiatives in the areas of automation, process improvements & advanced engineering of technical solutions (particularly to address repetitive tasks overhead)

  • Design and drive group initiatives in the areas of monitoring, exception reporting & handling, and capacity planning

  • Lead initiatives throughout S&N in support of service delivery

  • Mentor other S&N team members to co-ensure fulfillment of the ITSE technical needs and individual associates' career development goals

  • Provide temporary staffing augmentation support to SDN & CDN on a project-by-project basis to perform EBSCO and third party application deployments and support

Skills

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum of 10 years experience performing systems, network, storage, security, monitoring, performance and capacity planning administrative tasks

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in custom, proprietary application support (Tier 2 preferred) for a high-volume, for-pay, 24 x 7 x 365 online service

  • Minimum of 10 years experience cross-functional collaboration with business analysts, project management, development, QA and operations teams in a fast-paced team environment with a large, worldwide customer base

  • Minimum of 10 years in a team leadership role, defining and overseeing projects for other team members to execute

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in information systems or other technology related subject

  • Professional certification (e.g. ITIL, Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, etc.)

  • Experience with managing web servers (e.g. IIS, Apache, Tomcat, Glassfish, etc.

  • System administration experience with Windows and Linux

  • Storage administration experience using NetApp CIFS, NFS, iSCSI

  • Experience supporting a large and complex digital online application

  • Experience with system, network, security and application monitoring systems

  • Hands-on expertise of TCP/IP networking, network routing, and load balancing

  • Hands-on expertise of MSQL, Oracle, and MySQL relational databases

  • Technical writing and documentation experience, including Microsoft Visio
