Manager, Systems Engineering
The general responsibility of this position is to manage a group of hardware and software applications engineers providing support to customers, product marketing engineers and chip designers. The group managed by this individual is responsible for system level solutions to customer problems including hardware functionality, PCB layout requirements and trade-offs, firmware and software development and compliance to all relevant regulatory specifications. Specific group responsibilities include product hardware and software validation and characterization, product and/or new feature development, customer product development support, product definition, feasibility studies and competitive product evaluation. Additional responsibilities include writing and maintaining product documentation related to Silicon Laboratories products. This position requires good understanding of system partitioning to know which system-level functionality is handled by software, and which are handled by Silicon Laboratories firmware and hardware. The candidate must work with customers in debugging and solving problems. The candidate must also have the ability to read and comprehend industry-standard specifications on topics including PTT/EMC/Safety. This position requires outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and remotely located groups and customers. This job will require occasional domestic and international travel.
In summary, the candidate must have well-rounded management skills, debug and problem solving skills, outstanding written and oral communication skills, familiarity with system partitioning, be comfortable with both hardware and software, and have the ability to learn and write firmware. Additionally, the candidate must be a self starter and work well in a team. Individual contributors will not do well in this position.
? A BSEE or BSCS degree from an accredited university is required.
? A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant industry experience.
? A minimum of 3 years technical management experience.
? A sound foundation in basic analog and digital design skills.
? A detailed understanding of analog and digital system design.
? A working knowledge of the following software tools.
o Scripting language (Pearl, Python)
o Microsoft Office suite
