Job Summary
Performs routine and preventative maintenance, analyzes mechanical and/or electrical problems, and makes adjustments, repairs, replacements, or other corrective actions to ensure the continuous and safe functioning of equipment in the specified area of expertise.

Job Requirements

1 Some tools may need to be furnished at own expense prior to starting work.
2 Ability to safely lift up to 100 pounds without assistance.
3 The requirement to climb ladders in excess of 20 ft. and to be ablility to wear fall protection equipment.
4 The ability to wear and use a full face respirator.
5 The ability to work on roof tops and top of cooling towers and wear tfall protection equipment.
6 The ability to climb stairs up to 15 floors without assistance.
7 The ability to wear all Personal Protective equipment associated with the job duties including arc flash and insulating attire, safety glasses, face shields, insulation gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, air purifying respirators and any other PPE defined by OSHA and University policy.
8 Read and understand operations and maintenance manuals and safety training materials.
9 The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

1. Operates, repairs, overhauls, services, and maintains equipment in the area of expertise.
2. Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance work on equipment.
3. Helps in designing and implementing mechanical or electrical alterations to new and existing equipment in order to improve efficiency, performance, and/or extend the life of equipment.
4. May ensure that equipment meets all regulatory compliance requirements mandated by local, state and federal agencies.
5. Maintains clean equipment rooms and other areas.
6. Maintains equipment performance and repair records.
7. If leadworker status is assigned, may give work direction, establish priorities, or instruct Systems Maintenance Mechanics or other personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
Depending on the area of assignment, three years of maintenance and repair experience, or equivalency, in one or more of the following areas is required: pipefitting; heating, air conditioning, and steam-operated systems; pneumatic and electronic building control systems; plumbing and refrigeration systems; commercial/industrial laundry equipment; sterilizing equipment; gas/diesel engines and generators; kitchen and cafeteria equipment; mechanical and electrical troubleshooting; and welding. The ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations, effective human relations and communications skills, and demonstrated computer proficiency essential.

Incumbents who specialize in refrigeration and air conditioning systems must complete a two year vocational schooling program; possess Environmental Protection Agency certification with a Universal permit to handle refrigerants; and demonstrate a high level of technical expertise. A boiler license may be required for some positions.

Experience working on a Higher Education Campus. Water treatment experience preferred. Confined Space Training and Certification preferred.
