To operate a switchboard, beeper system, beeper system printer, modem system, beeper units, and emergency response system in order to make the proper connections and record and disseminate necessary related information.

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. One to two years clerical or customer service experience is necessary. Process incoming calls in a professional, courteous manner, while referring callers to appropriate resources.
Locate alternate sources of "help" when physicians are not available while continuing to deal with patients, families and other public sources.
Receive emergency calls and respond by contacting appropriate personnel and document progress of the situation.
Assist medical staff in placing calls through various routes (i.e.; WATS system, Calling Card and Direct Dial). Document the placing of such calls in order to re-bill those costs to the responsible department.
Assist hospital and medical staff in the processing of beeper repair, patches and record such information accurately.
Complete "Return Call Slips" accurately and completely. Also, complete associated tasks such as filing, entering into PC and follow up of possible problems.
Provide after hour telephone repair coverage for the entire Columbia campus and report emergency situations to appropriate telecommunications vendor.
Complete accurate documentation for all beeper transactions and use beeper CRT to accurately patch and unpatch beepers according to procedures.
Enter, sort, print out and evaluate beeper contact statistics on a daily basis using the Dbass III system.
Update beeper numbers and patient room telephone numbers on PCS System as needed.
Monitor emergency sources after hours for Green Meadows, Crossroads, Physician Referral, and 4 Hearts Program and contact appropriate physician or personnel as needed.
