This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. They are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the AF Reserves.

Retired military that have active AF Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position & unit) on their application.

Military service member's "Statement of Service" will be accepted up to 120 days prior to separation date IF a terminal leave form or DD214 cannot be provided.

The "Statement of Service" must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin, your rank, dates of active duty service, the Type of Discharge and Character of Service (i.e. honorable).

• Manages all deployable and fixed base communications equipment issues to ensure each tasked component is technically and operationally ready to meet USAF tasked missions.

• Develops, prepares, coordinates, and consolidates annexes for deployable and fixed based communications operational plans. Responsible for comm war planning within the unit.

• Determines, coordinates, and validates the provision of all logistical support required for deployable communications/mobility missions.

• Plans, develops, directs, monitors, and conducts all mobility training for the unit to include mission systems training.

• Serves as the Equipment Custodian Officer (ECO) for Automated Data Processing

Equipment Processing Equipment (A DPE) in AFRC units at designated tenant location, redistributing and replacing IT assets among users as needed in support of requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-07) or equivalent.

Specialized experience must include

experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.

Federal Time-In-Grade

(TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions:
Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-07 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral.

The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of standardized telecommunications concepts, principles, and practices regarding deployable computer/communications equipment and systems.

2. Knowledge of the operating characteristics of and interoperability requirements for some specialized communications systems such as satellite and video telecommunications, digital networks, etc.

3. Knowledge of information systems security principles and methods, inventory and equipment control processes and contractor performance evaluation procedures; knowledge of the application and use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software and components.

4. Knowledge of mobility readiness programs and related issues and composition of UTCs unique to communication disciplines.

5. Skill in weighing the impact of variables such as changes in electronic and other equipment characteristics, equipment availability, interoperability of components, and types of communications required.

6. Ability to resolve well-defined problems or questions by gathering and analyzing facts from a variety of sources, forming and communicating conclusions, and making recommendations for recurring and continuing assignments; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

:

1.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position.

The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.

Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in UTAs.

The incumbent’s regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.

2.

May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

May be subject to on-call or recall during contingencies or emergencies.

3.

May occasionally be required to travel away from the normal duty station, which may require the employee to travel on military or commercial aircraft.

4.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

5.

Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment.

This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.

Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
