MAJOR JOB DUTIES:Duties include, but are not limited, to the following:|
Responsible for all aspects of Teradata database operations including the design, installation, security and disaster recovery.
Train Co-Stars on Teradata technologies.
Creation of documentation and standards.
This person will work with a cross-section of the IT organization, including other DBA's, systems analysts, developers, outside consultants and the management team.
Assure integration of transformed data by working with ETL and Reports / Cube Developers accessing / interacting with the database.
Participate in the design and implementation of Teradata Data Marts (if any are created) derived from the Enterprise Data Warehouse or associated Operational Data Stores.
In addition, this position requires the selected DBA to provide 24 x 7 supports to all the production database environments by being on On-call.
Monitor ETL processes and work with the ETL Developers responsible for updating the Teradata system to insure data consistency and availability.
Contribute to other technology projects requiring programming/ DBA expertise.
Research solutions to various business and technical problems, evaluate alternatives and be able to present recommendations and justifications to management.
Provide mentoring to fellow database administrators, systems programmers and others.
Logical/Physical Data Modeling, Dimensional Modeling.
Develop project estimates for database activities.
Perform database modeling and logical and physical design.
Develop database design documentation such as data decompositions and data flow diagrams.
Perform database, application and system architecture design.
Participate as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection.
Keep current on database systems and features, 3rd party tools, and industry standards.
Perform capacity planning including allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements.
Create and execute scripts for various database maintenance activities.
Provide guidelines for development and production.
Perform database tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing performance of the databases.
Develop archival, backup and recovery strategy.
Plan, perform and monitor database backups.
Perform database recoveries.
Provide 24x7 on call production support.
Serves as escalation point for database issues.
Performs other related duties as assigned/required.

Three+ years as a Teradata Database Adminstrator working in a 24x7 environment with multi-terabyte, multi-application databases on MP-RAS Unix and Linux operating systems. Three+ years working with Teradata Manager and Teradata load utilities. Extensive experience with Enterprise Data Warehouses and Data Marts. Experience with 3rd-party add-ons such as SAS or Tibco adapters a plus.
