The Theatre Arts Department of Santa Rosa Junior College is accepting applications for a pool of qualified candidates with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed (as specified in Education Code Section 87482.5). DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Theatre Arts Department produces five main stage shows, one touring show, and two showcases during the academic year and five shows during the summer through Summer Repertory Theatre. There are four full-time faculty, five classified staff and several adjunct faculty in the department. The department is comprised of two distinct programs: Theatre Arts, a 10-month academic and producing program, and the Summer Repertory Theatre (SRT). Summer Repertory Theatre is Santa Rosa Junior College Theatre Arts Department's pre-professional training program for career-oriented theatre students. ADJUNCT POOL DESCRIPTION We are accepting applications for instructors for inclusion in a pool who have the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas (there are no anticipated needs for 2012/13):
  • Acting (including 'Acting for the Camera')
  • Directing
  • Musical Theatre
  • Stagecraft
  • Theatre Literature
  • Theatre Technology
Assignments could involve full or partial assignment at any of the District's sites or off-campus locations, and could involve any combination of day or evening classes, with office hours being mandatory. Adjunct faculty are responsible for maintaining currency in their field(s) of expertise. All faculty are encouraged to participate in updating existing courses (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or on-line courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in departmental activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college. QUALIFICATIONS Required for all areas except Stagecraft: Master's Degree in Drama/Theatre Arts/Performance; OR Bachelor's Degree in Drama/ Theatre Arts/Performance AND Master's Degree in Comparative Literature, English, Speech, Literature, or Humanities; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Theatre Arts & Related Technologies. Preferred for all areas except stagecraft: Teaching and/or vocational experience in the area of interest. Required for Stagecraft only: Bachelor's degree AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; OR an Associate's degree AND six years full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Theatre Arts & Related Technologies. Preferred for Stagecraft only : Degree in a related area. Required for all areas: Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.   • A statement describing your demonstrated experience in understanding and being sensitive to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • A brief cover letter explaining your interest in the pool, including how you meet the requirements and are qualified to perform the duties as listed in the "Adjunct Pool Description" section of this announcement. Please specify which area(s) you are interested in being considered for.
  • Current Resume.
  • Copies of transcripts of all college level course work (unofficial copies acceptable (both sides), but official transcripts must be submitted prior to hiring ). If transcripts are from an institution outside of the United States, applicants must provide a formal evaluation of their foreign degree(s) at the time of application.   • Two (2) current letters of professional recommendation written within the last two years, and specific to this type of assignment.

    • For Unit A (AFA) Faculty, salary placement may be based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience depending on discipline and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be a Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in Article 27 of the AFA Contract.
    • Sick Leave Accrual : Adjunct faculty members accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
