TIC Western - Human Resources Generalist


This Human Resources Generalist will work closely with, and support, the District Human Resources Manager in all departmental human resources needs, but primarily with employee relations matters. In so doing they will be a trusted expert / advisor for human resources policies, programs, and processes related to employee relations and compliance matters within TIC – Western. With staff in states throughout much of the United States it is critical for the successful candidate in this position to build strong relationships across all sectors and locations of the business.

Employee Relations
  • Advising employees on all human resources related compliance matters such as equal employment opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and sexual harassment
  • Responding to and conducting human resource related investigations, including conducting in-person interviews, compiling investigation notes, and providing recommendations
  • Performing difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, firing employees, and administering disciplinary procedures
  • Assisting District Compliance Manager to ensure all jobsites and offices maintain compliance with human resources related requirements
  • Maintaining accurate data for each employee, including such information as addresses, absences, supervisory reports on performance, and dates of and reasons for terminations

Human Resources Management
  • Serving as an employee advocate using HR expertise to support continued development for an engaged work environment
  • Participating in the development of departmental goals, objectives and systems
  • Processing, verifying, and maintaining records concerning personnel-related data such as staffing, transfers, terminations and performance appraisals
  • Preparing, analyzing and maintaining statistical reports concerning personnel-related data
  • Remaining up-to-date in the field of HR by pursuing a program of self-development, (participating in professional associations, interacting with peers, reviewing pertinent literature, etc.)

Employee Development
  • Analyzing training needs and designing employee development programs for all employees on:
    • All human resources related compliance matters such as equal employment opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and sexual harassment
    • Dealing with difficult staffing duties, including understaffing, refereeing disputes, firing employees, and administering disciplinary procedures
  • Arranging for in-house and/or external training activities, based on needs of the TIC employees


  • Bachelors Degree in human resources, or related field preferred
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience up to and including as a Human Resources Generalist
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and procedures for labor relations and negotiations, training, personnel administration and personnel information systems
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal and State laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules

  • Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Competent with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, OneNote, and SharePoint)
  • SAP software knowledge preferred

  • Ability to manage a high volume workload, work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment with limited supervision
  • The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
