The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the role of Transportation Analyst, you will need:

----5+ years of experience working in a logistics environment, preferably in a high volume manufacturer, 3PL, or consulting firm.
----A bachelor's degree, ideally in Transportation or Logistics or another job-relevant field of study.
----Deep understanding of domestic / international shipment routings and logistic cost drivers, and the ability to collaborate to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
----Knowledge of LTL, TL, and small package cost drivers, market environment, and key suppliers.
----The ability to handle rate negotiations of all modes of transportation (Parcel, LTL, TL, Intermodal, Air).
----Proven experience driving performance enhancing changes with carriers, and ensuring internal KPI's and targets are achieved.
----Experience analyzing and managing a transportation budget.
----Experience with freight payment information and analysis.
----Analysis experience tracking trends and impacts.
----The ability to develop and implement process improvement ideas; creative thinking.
----PC literacy including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Access) applications and advanced proficiency with Excel. You should have the skill to export data from Access and capture, report, match, scrub, etc. in Excel.

Preferred, but not required, qualifications include:

----Lean Six Sigma and/or green/black belt experience / certification.
----Experience managing and reviewing / auditing freight bills and 3rd party carriers.
----Experience with WMS, ERP and TMS solutions.

The Role

Reporting to the Sr. Global Transportation Manager, you will focus on all modes for freight movement throughout our network. You'll work with both internal and external customers to develop cost savings initiatives and administer KPI / scorecard maintenance to ensure proper routings are followed. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for negotiating rates and developing and implementing process improvements to achieve productivity and transportation goals. It will be your task to ensure carriers meet or exceed our service expectations and other metrics. Based upon your ongoing analyses, you will recommend and implement changes as necessary to meet service and cost goals.

On an ongoing basis you will leverage your expert Excel skills to conduct regular and ad hoc analyses, prepare reports, and identify improvements. This is a hands-on role and you can expect to manage multiple tasks. On occasion you might be involved with project work (for example, working on order consolidation for less frequent shipping), but the bulk of your role will be ensuring, via analysis, that current cost and quality goals are being met. This is a critical point of business for HHI, requiring a go-getter who will continually investigate means to improve performance and proactively take steps to ensure we're achieving optimal results.

Specifically, you will:

----Negotiate domestic carrier contracts and rates for all modes (TL, LTL, Air, Parcel, Intermodal).
----Evaluate lanes and modes to ensure the most effective use of time and costs, and then make fact-based recommendations.
----Identify, create and validate initiatives that improve both processes and costs and assist others in their analysis and projects.
----Maintain carrier scorecards and operational metrics for weekly and monthly meetings.
----Drive carrier compliance to ensure lead time expectations and damage ratios are exceeded.
----Direct carrier measurement to drive carrier efficiency.
----Manage internal reports for the different functions of the business.
----Provide high-level customer service maintenance with internal and external customers.
----Frame projects and initiatives in a Six-Sigma format.
----Perform KPI tracking and improvements for all functions of the transportation department.
----Develop and maintain cost and service models for improved business processes.
----Ensure estimates for necessary functions of transportation are in place (assist in handling/creation).
----Perform tracking and trend impact analysis.
----Assist team members and internal customers in the analysis and tracking of information as needed.
----Support the Sr. Global Transportation Manager in preparing reports, improving processes and providing analysis.
----Ensure the business and carriers are compliant with tariff rules and regulations at Federal and Local levels.
----Assist in SOP maintenance and development.

Broad exposure and visibility -- while you will have specific areas of focus, you won't be pigeonholed the way Analysts often are at other companies. You'll have input on multiple points in the supply chain and interact with a variety of people in the organization, including Distribution, Planning, Customer Service, Sales and others. You also will work directly with customers in multiple channels, carriers and other external contributors. There is not a person in the department that the President does not know personally!

You’ll take ownership of your carriers, ensuring they’re meeting their commitments, enforcing contracts when they are not, and finding alternates when improvements are not adequate. You’ll need finesse when working with your carriers and getting them to perform as we need them to. We’re the last point our customers see before delivery, and we never want to be the weakest link. If you can drive the function, getting carriers to perform in the way you wish them to, you’ll know you’re having an impact.
