Reporting to the Sr. Global Transportation Manager, you will focus on all modes for freight movement throughout our network. You'll work with both internal and external customers to develop cost savings initiatives and administer KPI / scorecard maintenance to ensure proper routings are followed. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for negotiating rates and developing and implementing process improvements to achieve productivity and transportation goals. It will be your task to ensure carriers meet or exceed our service expectations and other metrics. Based upon your ongoing analyses, you will recommend and implement changes as necessary to meet service and cost goals.
On an ongoing basis you will leverage your expert Excel skills to conduct regular and ad hoc analyses, prepare reports, and identify improvements. This is a hands-on role and you can expect to manage multiple tasks. On occasion you might be involved with project work (for example, working on order consolidation for less frequent shipping), but the bulk of your role will be ensuring, via analysis, that current cost and quality goals are being met. This is a critical point of business for HHI, requiring a go-getter who will continually investigate means to improve performance and proactively take steps to ensure we're achieving optimal results.
Specifically, you will:
----Negotiate domestic carrier contracts and rates for all modes (TL, LTL, Air, Parcel, Intermodal).
----Evaluate lanes and modes to ensure the most effective use of time and costs, and then make fact-based recommendations.
----Identify, create and validate initiatives that improve both processes and costs and assist others in their analysis and projects.
----Maintain carrier scorecards and operational metrics for weekly and monthly meetings.
----Drive carrier compliance to ensure lead time expectations and damage ratios are exceeded.
----Direct carrier measurement to drive carrier efficiency.
----Manage internal reports for the different functions of the business.
----Provide high-level customer service maintenance with internal and external customers.
----Frame projects and initiatives in a Six-Sigma format.
----Perform KPI tracking and improvements for all functions of the transportation department.
----Develop and maintain cost and service models for improved business processes.
----Ensure estimates for necessary functions of transportation are in place (assist in handling/creation).
----Perform tracking and trend impact analysis.
----Assist team members and internal customers in the analysis and tracking of information as needed.
----Support the Sr. Global Transportation Manager in preparing reports, improving processes and providing analysis.
----Ensure the business and carriers are compliant with tariff rules and regulations at Federal and Local levels.
----Assist in SOP maintenance and development.
Note: this description is intended to give you an overview of the role but is not an exhaustive listing of responsibilities.
Broad exposure and visibility -- while you will have specific areas of focus, you won't be pigeonholed the way Analysts often are at other companies. You'll have input on multiple points in the supply chain and interact with a variety of people in the organization, including Distribution, Planning, Customer Service, Sales and others. You also will work directly with customers in multiple channels, carriers and other external contributors. There is not a person in the department that the President does not know personally!
Career opportunities -- as you work with people in different areas you'll acquire a bird's eye view of our organization and become proficient in coordinating across functional lines, a highly valuable skill in our matrix structure. Your success in this role could set you up to move up within the Transportation organization or even into other areas.
Impact and autonomy -- you'll be able to put your "personal stamp" on important processes, and we're looking for a professional with a strong sense of responsibility who appreciates the opportunity to "own" their assignment. In fact, while your supervisor requires regular updates, he expects that you'll proactively identify tasks. You will have goals and weekly meetings, but will be given the autonomy you need to excel. Of course, you'll also have support when you need it.
Strong brands, strong company -- there is always a great deal of entrepreneurial energy in the air here, and we are constantly exploring innovative avenues and opportunities for growth. The Hardware & Home Improvement group has well-known brands, many of which you may have in your own home.
Great culture -- you'll benefit from a strong, collaborative culture within an organization focused on its people. We understand that our success depends upon hiring and retaining great people who share the values deeply embedded in our culture: demonstrate unyielding integrity, deliver on commitments, win through teamwork, and inspire excellence.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, we offer a premium benefits package that includes all that you would expect, such as healthcare insurances, and a few surprises like dependent care reimbursement accounts, educational assistance, and more.
Keys to Success
We're looking for a professional with a solid work ethic, a can-do attitude, and the initiative to analyze situations, develop options and present recommendations. To excel in this role you will employ a systematic and logical approach to analyzing processes in order to understand current data and gather insights valuable to decision making. You should be able to present your findings to leadership, logically and clearly suggesting ways to improve current results and forecasting outcomes.
While your analytical skills are paramount, your interpersonal skills should be equally as strong. You’ll take ownership of your carriers, ensuring they’re meeting their commitments, enforcing contracts when they are not, and finding alternates when improvements are not adequate. You’ll need finesse when working with your carriers and getting them to perform as we need them to. We’re the last point our customers see before delivery, and we never want to be the weakest link. If you can drive the function, getting carriers to perform in the way you wish them to, you’ll know you’re having an impact.
