Primary Purpose and Essential Functions: Responsible for buying and selling freight in a dynamic environment within Swift's Logistics division (3PL and Brokerage). Respond to Swift's capacity requirements and network while ensuring adherence to company processes and procedures. Deliver rapid and profitable growth, while leveraging Swift's resources, relationships,and market position. Build and optimize the use of carrier partner relationships, alliance partnerships and other relations to deliver the most compelling short and long-term customer value propositions and efficient means of moving our customer's freight.
1 Profitable Growth: Consistently deliver on aggressive growth and profitability targets in order to position Swift as the best-in-class asset based 3PL.
2 Brokerage Solutions: Responsibility for Swift Logistics brokerage requirements on both the buy and sell sides, including but not limited to: on-boarding, pricing (Linehaul, Dedicated Brokerage and Intermodal), operations, billing, IT and reporting.
3 Customer Focus: Act as main liaison between customer and Swift; resolve arising issues, compile required reporting and identify and pursue additional opportunities. Deliver win-win solutions.
4 Effective Negotiations: Lead negotiations of rates and terms with partners and customers in order to yield compelling value and win-win solutions; sell and negotiate carrier and customer rates to achieve optimal margins.
5 Effective Communication: Coordinate and arrange the buy from outside carriers to ensure timely pick up and delivery for Swift as well as all customer facilities; facilitate communication and manage the interface between the customers' transportation personnel and head office. Properly integrate customer transportation strategies of those which are considered within the formulation of Swift strategies.
6 Metric Focus: Maintain focus on Key Performance Indicators, reports, metrics and methods for ongoing measurement of customer performance and departmental success. Embrace the use of Swift's business improvement tools and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
7 Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which reflects Swift's mission and values and facilitates the success of business unit in order to meet company expectations. Present a quality oriented image where the carrier and Swift's operations are treated in a consistent, professional, courteous and efficient manner, so that the impression is one of excellence.
8 Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership; including, but not limited to travel when applicable.
Skills: Transportation and 3PL knowledge; sales and customer service experience, focused on value delivery; results oriented; entrepreneurial spirit with proven ability to solicit new customers and meet specific revenue targets; strong sense of urgency and purpose, with a bias for action; cross-functional collaboration to drive exceptional results; familiarity in AS400, MS Office Suite tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); data management through spreadsheet and database applications; excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to communicate well with others and transfer knowledge; possess above average public speaking, negotiation, time management, writing and organizational skills; ability to understand and enforce company policies; maintain a professional appearance and work environment; familiarity and knowledge of TMS and brokerage systems; quantitative and qualitative analysis skills with superior problem solving ability; self-confident and self-starter without the need of close supervision; ability to operate in a busy, demanding environment within a highly motivated environment; integrity, credibility and trust oriented. Education: High School diploma or GED with some college preferred. Each higher level of education achieved may be considered for substitute of each one year of required experience. Experience Required: Minimum of two (2) years of previous brokerage-related/transportation experience or two (2) years experience with sales, inside sales call center or customer service experience.
