ITD/Phoenix Maintenance Division
Work Location: 2140 West Hilton, Phoenix, AZ

Job Description: This person is responsible for the Day-to-day operations of the Roadway Area in the Phoenix Maintenance District. In addition, this position is responsible for the administration of the budget for the
Roadway Area which is currently at 10 million dollars annually.

This position is responsible for maintenance of roadways, drainage, channels, concrete structures, barriers, guard rail, attenuators, cable barriers, soundwalls and other features related to the roadway. The District covers 439 miles of roadway; a total of 5,366 lane miles.

This person is also responsible for the administration and operation of the Phoenix Maintenance District during the absence of the District Engineer. In that capacity, this person handles all the day-to-day issues that Phoenix Maintenance District is required to process. This includes but is not limited to contract decisions with regard to encumbering Millions of dollars of State Funds and developing work plans for annual maintenance activities. With over 3 million in population and responsibility for the Regional Freeway System in the MAG Transportation Management Area, this person may be responsible for administering and assuming control over large incidents and determining the safety of transportation system in the Phoenix Arizona metropolitan area. When large incidents occur, the knowledge of hazardous material procedures, notification procedures and other emergency operating modes is required.

It is not unusual for the Phoenix Maintenance Assistant District Engineer to be required to prepare cost analyses, reports and provide information to the Headquarters personnel working on Legislative, Managerial or Constituent requests to ADOT. The information provided needs to be accurate and meaningful and timely for decision making purposes and often budgetary decisions are made based upon data provided.

Knowledge of:
*Engineering philosophies, technical application requirements and principles.
*Administrative procedures and methods related to managing the District.
*Program procedures utilized within the Department.

Abilities to:
*Accomplish the District's mission with allocated resources.
*Interact with District personnel, as well as other ADOT Employees, Designers, Contractors, and other project related
*Exercise considerable engineering judgment when dealing with non-routine situations.
*Adjust designs to field practices and conditions.

*Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering or a closely related field in the State of Arizona, or proof of eligibility for reciprocity in the State of Arizona.

Ideal Candidate: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field. A minimum of 5 to 10 years experience in Civil Engineering.

Note: This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign the Driver Form on page 6 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
