ITD/Traffic Engineering Group
Work Location: 1615 W. Jackson St., Phoenix, AZ

Position Description: This position will perform Traffic Safety evaluations. This includes gathering all necessary field data, photographs, traffic volume data, historical crash data, As-Built data, and/or Ball-Banking data, etc. in order to evaluate various sections of roadways or other statewide patterns for possible safety enhancements. Estimates the construction cost of various suggested enhancements. Determines the Benefit Cost ratios associated with the proposed enhancement(s) for each location. Prepare official memos and/or reports for supervisor's review and approval. The memos and reports which recommend safety enhancements must be approved by the Traffic Safety Section Manager. Assist in preparing Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) reports, including data collection, compilation, analysis and report preparation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Highway design, construction and maintenance practices.

Ideal Candidate: Will have completed courses towards a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and two years experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineering Associate (grade S8); or three years experience at a Senior Transportation Engineering Technician level (grade S7 or above); or three years experience equivalent to a Highway Maintenance Supervisor (Pay Grade 20); or completion of the ADOT Engineering-in-Training (E.I.T.) program; or registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona.

Note: This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign the Driver Form on page 6 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
