The Tableau Developer & Administrator will be an integral part of Merkle’s Business Intelligence team and the Merkle Tableau community. Tableau is one of the few software products that is literally used throughout the company – multiple business units are designing and executing Tableau solutions for our clients. In fact, many of our clients utilize Tableau, in the Merkle environment, to customize their business intelligence.
The Tableau Developer & Administrator will be responsible for both being an integral part of our Tableau development team and maintaining various Tableau Server environments – both the common environment as well as the client specific environments. As a developer, you will be responsible for delivering outstanding CRM reporting solutions for our industry leading clients in a variety of business verticals. As an administrator, you will own our various Tableau Server environments – all specifically designed to optimize our client’s Tableau interactions.
This role combination will naturally position the Tableau Developer & Administrator as our go-to resource and thought leader by being a critical part of the Merkle Tableau community by overseeing our technical aspects of the software (for example, licensing coordination), taking an active role in our Tableau Helpdesk and User’s Group, and providing training to our clients and client teams. This role reports into the Business Intelligence group – a fun, dynamic reporting team in a fast paced environment. This role may manage staff.
Develop outstanding Tableau dashboards for our clients
Assist in client sales, project pricing, and project planning
Lead business intelligence project tasks, for multiple clients and multiple projects, including directing personnel and optimizing resources
Act as a Tableau author on client projects
Provide thought leadership in dashboard design principles and effectively apply them
Be able create, or follow, business functional requirements by designing and testing Tableau dashboards to meet and exceed client expectations.
Maintain and Administer the Merkle Tableau Server environments
Optimize the common environment that hosts both internal and external accounts
Optimize client specific server instances
Coordinate Tableau Server features with client IT teams to ensure that their intellectual property is properly maintained (as defined by the client)
Keep the Tableau Server environments up to date
Lead client project tasks requiring Tableau Server integration
Be the Merkle subject matter expert in Tableau Server
Make compromises in the common Merkle Tableau environment to maximize its efficiency and utility while serving the greater community.
Identify, create specifications for, and execute plans to stand up custom client Server environments when the common environment is not sufficient.
Provide the proper balance for test and production environments
Coordinate server support with Merkle IT (Back-ups, security, installation, hardware maintenance, etc.)
Provide account creation support
Provide training to Tableau authors for properly setting security settings
Provide the proper account creation & maintenance environment
Participate with any Tableau beta testing programs
Develop the version 8 java script capability within Merkle
Participate in the Merkle Tableau community
Mentor and train personnel in Tableau best practices
Coordinate desktop and server licenses for both the Merkle community and external client users
Actively participate in the Merkle Tableau Helpdesk and the Merkle Tableau User’s group.
Provide Tableau training (both server and desktop) to Merkle and client authors
Provide thought leadership, for not only Merkle, but for clients and the global Tableau community (if appropriate), regarding the efficient maintenance of multiple custom environments as well as smart strategies for a large common environment.
Publicly participate in the greater Tableau Community by engaging in Tableau forum topics, engaging in public Tableau User’s Groups, writing white papers, authoring blogs, etc.
Qualified individuals must possess the Merkle attributes of being smart, curious, committed to vision, passionate, fun/pleasant, an achiever and having a sense of urgency Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, math, statistics, or related field.
5 years business intelligence experience
2 years Tableau Desktop experience - designing and developing Tableau Reports, Documents, Dashboards and Scorecards per specified requirements and timelines
2 years Tableau Server experience – configuring and optimizing Tableau Server per specified requirements and timelines
Experience with single and multi-server Tableau Server instances
The ability to lead a team, a project, or a task with diverse resources and people with varying skill sets
Ability to coach and mentor business users and co-workers on the design, development, and usage of the Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server
Working knowledge of databases
2 years SQL Server experience – with strong knowledge of SQL and SQL tuning
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience in working with teams with diverse team members in various roles (sales, marketing, analytics, IT, database)
Consulting experience desired including experience facilitating requirements gathering and discovery sessions.
