Chevron Services Company is now accepting online applications for the position of TAX ANALYST located in Concord, CA through May 21, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time).
This experienced, staff-level position is located within Chevron's Excise Tax Advisory Group (ETAG). ETAG specializes in providing multi-state sales and use tax research, advice and audit defense for its various business units and legal entities. Additionally, it advances its internal clients' business performance by achieving maximum tax savings for major capital projects as well as frequent inquiries. The prospective applicant will be exposed to all aspects of the oil and gas industry (including upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, plus alternative energy developments).
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Timely completion of use tax audits with government agencies.
Developing concrete tax positions and providing audit documentation to state auditors.
Researching and providing guidance to internal business unit clients on sales and use tax issues impacting business decisions.
Performing reviews of high risk accounts payable transactions to mitigate potential tax exposure.
Collaborating with internal systems tax analysts and recommending use tax accrual processes for automated purchase transactions.
Keeping abreast of tax law changes and consulting with internal tax counsel on complex tax issues.
Occasional travel to local and out-of-state client sites may be required.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax or finance related field. Masters in Taxation highly preferred.
2 to 5 years of multi-state sales and use tax experience.
In lieu of sales and use tax experience, 3 to 6 years of general tax experience with a Big 4, large regional public accounting firm, government tax agencies, or corporate tax department will be considered. Or, 3 to 6 years of related tax and/or audit experience in a Chevron business unit.
Solid tax research skills with CCH IntelliConnect, RIA Checkpoint or comparable research platforms.
Strong analytical and technical skills in interpreting and applying tax laws to complex tax matters.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience using SAP or comparable general ledger software systems.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate conclusions and recommendations.
Solid teamwork ethic and excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with peers and management at various levels.
Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a timely manner.
Must be extremely well organized and detail oriented.
Masters in Taxation is highly preferred.
