The tax supervisor is responsible for large and or complex engagements and may oversee two or more engagements simultaneously. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to assume full responsibility for directing engagements and special assignments, can review workpapers, financial statements and reports and conduct discussions with clients. The tax supervisor directs seniors and staff accountants, reviews programs and sees that assignments are accomplished within the budgeted time, reviews workpapers for accuracy and completeness, and reviews the financial statements for suitability of presentation and adequacy of disclosures. A tax supervisor follows the progress of the engagement and helps resolve accounting and auditing problems as they arise. The tax supervisor has responsibility for complying with pronouncements of professional and other regulatory groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate the various phases of an engagement, including staff requirements, locations to be visited, and job planning and scheduling, with the manager or partner. Plan the logistics of the engagement, including the work performed by other CPA firms.
Study and evaluate the internal controls used by the client, and prepare or review the audit program and time budget (for subsequent approval by a partner).
Assign work to staff members on the basis of their knowledge and capabilities.
Support the training of staff members; offer guidance and direction, and constructive criticism of workpapers.
Evaluate workpapers and determine whether the engagement is being performed in accordance with applicable professional standards.
Review with the manager or partner any significant findings that raise questions involving accounting principles or statement presentation.
Prepare or review financial statements, notes, schedules, reportable conditions letters and tax returns for later discussion between the manager or partner and the client. In some instances the supervisor may discuss these matters with the client.
Prepare a constructive evaluation report for discussion with each member of the staff.
Serve in educational programs as an instructor or discussion leader.
Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
Perform other job-related duties as necessary

Required Skills

MUST possess a BS/BA degree in Accounting; Masters in Taxation, LLM in Taxation, or JD a plus
CPA designation required
5 - 8 years' progressive experience in public accounting preparing and reviewing tax returns for various types of entities (primarily S-Corp, C-Corp, and Partnerships) and industries, tax planning, client interaction and performing special tax projects for clients ; knowledge of partnership taxation in the real estate industry strongly desired
3 or more years experience in tax accounting with an emphasis on corporate tax and high net worth self-employed individuals
Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in US GAAP
Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment
Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
Proven technical skills with Excel, Word, and tax preparation software; experience with ProSystem Tax strongly desired
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients
Strong desire to be an intricate part of business development and marketing strategies
Strong leadership, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Solid organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task; must be detail oriented
Possess positive and professional attitude
Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites
